What's your property 'one that got away'?

For me, it's easy. This:

We just couldn't make the numbers work to buy at £750k. However, couple of years later it sold for £300k - after we'd bought somewhere for £450k!
It did get planning to convert back to single dwelling, however they've failed to get permission for separate Annexe.
Drove past it today whilst visiting mum. They've absolutely destroyed it!

They've cut right back, cutting the main living room in half (and ripping out the beautiful parquet!). Knocked down the 'good' extension, leaving the one that is s
te and could have been good parking space, etc.
Fair enough, their money, their choice - but now absolutely kicking myself I didn't keep badgering them with a cheeky offer!
How about you? Anything you still kick yourself about years later?

It would have been the perfect "forever house" for us with absolutely beautiful grounds . But it would have been a stretch for us (and I'm exceptionally risk averse).
It eventually sold for a little under asking but it was demolished and 4/5 McMansions built in the grounds for £500k-£600k each

This one with a view of Malvern. I was hoping to get a really good job (2nd choice candidate in the end) and would have been able to buy had it come off.

Crikey that's stunning - and a crying shame to have just been demolished. Seems like the sort of place that 'should' have been listed? There used to be a pit on the edge of Nottingham (Babbington if you are from the area).
The pub that bordered it fell into disrepair and was available to buy for next to nothing. Pub before closure:

I drove past it every day for years thinking the land might be worth something in years to come. Eventually the whole pit area became Phoenix Business Park, with the pub area a critical piece of land.

Going back 25 years and a property came up that I had admired for years, when I was a kid the local plumber had set up himself and made a ton on money in the early 80’s and self built the property to a high specification,so much so that there was a swimming pool in the back garden and I think a steam room but not too sure on that.
This was a 4 bedroom/dining/living room and huge kitchen with a double garage , now this is in Scotland and I know prices are way lower that down south but this is a nice area/small village and was going for offers over £185,000…!!!
Ex wife didn’t fancy it so never even viewed it but came up again about 3 years ago and was still under£275,000 , sometimes wonder if the pool is holding the price down considering what it would cost to heat and maintain it.

Not a fancy house by any means but a couple of years ago we found a long term house on the same estate as we live on now, great area, close to work, usual good amentites house that ticks all the boxes
Sold our place to reserve this new build, all going well, 2 weeks before exchange and day after we spent £2k on extras the buyer decides to pull out
Back on the market, no luck as it’s summer holidays. New build gets sold to someone else after losing reservation
2 and a half years later we are still deciding what to do, we want to move, but market has changed and can’t shift our current place, can’t decide on a area, can’t decide what sort of house, can’t decide to just stay put
Ruined the whole process we where excited for and now just caused years of grief and indecision
Could be quite happily in that long term house now loving life but not to be

Might not be much to some, but it would have suited me right down to the ground.
The cash wasn't the issue; timing wasn't right for (what's left of) my career as there's no work in that part of the world... This seems to be a theme for me at the moment. Just got to hold on for a few more years...

When I was a kid I could see, from my bedroom window, a pair of semis on the side of the hill overlooking the village where I lived. They stood out as a contemporary piece of mid-century design among more traditional houses with the living foor at the top enjoying floor-to-ceiling windows which afforded panoramic views across the valley. I always dreamed of living in one. A few years ago one came up for sale. It was £200k. Obviously not much by PH powerfully built company director standards, but I couldn't afford it. I could possibly have scraped £180k together, which I thought they'd laugh at, so I didn't make an offer. I went for a look anyway - there was no way I couldn't have - before I quietly faded away. Some time after it sold I checked the sold prices section on Rightmove to see what it had actually gone for. £170k! Bugger!!

Not property but land.
A field behind the house, negotiations all in hand to purchase, then the sellers agent suddenly turned and said it's no longer for sale.
But then it did get sold privately without any other parties given a chance to bid.
Three years later the local council included it in the 'Local Plan', 2 years ago plans where put in to build 68 houses on it.
I wanted to buy it to stop building houses on it, since 1970 the village has lost 75% of it's agricultural land to houses, mostly by compulsory purchase this will be another 10% gone.

This one, really wanted to live there. Lutyens' last country estate before WW2.

Looked at a house that was £45k but needed around £50k spending on it (iirc this was 1996). Nobody would lend us the money to do it. Ended up buying a place for £105k that everyone and their dog was happy to lend to us as it needed no work. Still think about the first place whenever we drive out that way.

Thanks for the link too - quite a useful site (and a bit different from Zoopla).
Here's my 'unicorn' as it was before they started bashing it about.
Holmpark, Creetown
Sold for £330,000 in 2008 We wanted this and could have bought it and banked enough to buy a base in the Home Counties for family visits. However health problems made it an unwise move so we reluctantly let it go. Now at £580,000 it has been refurbished and is still a wonderful house. It was previously owned by a WW2 Squadron Leader with a DFC from Bomber Command.
The health problems still prevail and four grandchildren who didn't exist in 2008 so sadly it's still off the table.

Barn not far from us came for sale few years ago, think it was 250k didn't sell so down to auction at guide 150k or something, anyway always thought would be good opportunity if got planning, but would be difficult to.
Someone took a punt and has got it after I imagine a year or two of going through the process. Surrounding houses are worth a few million so they'll have done alright!
