San Francisco accomodation
Discussion
Spending a few nights in San Fran in August. My friend and his wife and I don't want to go all out on hotel costs, so would like any recommendations for decent budget places to stay for a few nights that are close to the best attractions.
We will have a rental car for the entire trip so a few miles isn't an issue.
Thanks
Also, whilst you're here, we're planning on a few nights in Yosemite and Sequoia. Recommendations welcome.

We stayed here http://www.goldengatehotel.com/ as part of our honeymoon trip. Nice and central, not too expense and full of charm.
I generally go to San Fran 2-3 times a year. The price of hotels is generally a lot higher than you'd expect because the place is relatively small. What sort of budget are you on? And whilst you will have the car, I find it easier to be able to park up and not have to drive around the place!
The Chancellor on Union Square is nice and in a good location if you want down town. I actually like the Fishermans Wharf area. It's tourist central and I've not stayed there, it usually comes down to for me if you want to be down at Wharf or in one of the down town areas but SF is not all that big, and the walk from FW to Union Square isn't all that far although it's a bit of a slog uphill.
Having a car in SF is a bit of a pain in the arse and parking is expensive we usually start or end in SF so have either picked or dropped up the car.

Cheap and cheerful, with free parking. Easy access to everywhere.
Harris' Steakhouse round the corner.

I was going to mention that too - not all hotels have parking and those that do often charge $40-$50/nt. Also if you book a hotel direct there's 15% tax on top of the quoted rate.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
