So, by that logic, you can't criticise or say how you would do something unless you have direct experience of it. I've never directed a film, should I be allowed to say what I find wrong with one?

Stupid people resent tax. They are often people that pay relatively little, because they earn little, but won't even pay £1 more for any reason or justification, because they think other people should pay it.
bit random - I resent the way the tax is gathered, and spent - nearly all of it.

I'm far from stupid and I pay much much tax........

I would have thought it was the other end of the spectrum that had an issue with it - not the poor that hardly pay any.
the main thing for me is that people moan, moan and fking moan about tax is spent. However, have you ever run a country, budget or a major public service? It's in the same category as Darren half pissed in the local going on and on about how he could manage his football team better than any manager they've ever had. It's just sounding off. People for the most part know less than fk all about the decisions, compromises, diplomacy, assessment, procurement, commercial dealings that a government has to undertake. All that in the context that they can't actually take the actions they would probably like to take because they are beholden to the all-knowing electorate. Anything transformative is loved by some and hated by others. Hate in numbers loses elections. Love in numbers does not always win them. "yea yea fking politicians just looking to keep themselves in power at all costs" well guess what most people know zip there too. Polarised politics breeds massive instability, flip flopping between parties gets nothing done either. It's almost impossible to get things done in a democracy. Unless you are maybe someone like Thatcher. Moan moan moan fking Thatcher fking ruined my coh-myoo-neet-eh i'd love to dance on er grave!! Well if you think that then maybe you are proving my point.
not quite the same as half pissed Darren. I think I'd quite like to run the country. The way I've run business and I've seen far better than me run business, we could absolutely do a better job. Yes I have ran major budgets, and major services. (Not public).

Don't judge everyone by your own standards of competence and experience.
and all of that is pointless incorroborable hot air unless you plan to run for office. So, why have are you depriving the electorate of the ability to vote for such a highly qualified and suitable candidate?
they can't afford me
classic
fact as it goes. I'm not going to cut my own throat to do a thankless job. I'll do it when they pay appropriately.

Incidently, I'd do it for the same as I get now........I'm just not taking a pay cut.
i don't think politicians generally get into that line of work for the money. Maybe if you're only looking at your own remuneration then you're not the right person to run the country after all?
or maybe, just maybe the sort of people that become politicians do it because they aren't actually very good at anything and nobody would pay them more than they can make. So they're at the top of the skillset.........and most struggling with that.

Had they run big programmes, or businesses, they wouldn't be so fking useless and would respect expenditure, profit etc.

I know the answer, no need for a debate.

You are saying they should be able to enjoy the full value of it but not saying why they should be exempt from paying tax on money received like most of us have to do every payday.
Do you have children, do you not want to give them the best possible advantage, or would you prefer the government to ‘take’ what you have toiled your life away working for?

Simple really. I can’t see any parent feeling differently.

but do you want children of rich people running the country, being at the helm of every business, etc or would you prefer the best people for the job?

There is a very good chance (this being PH) that you will not understand what happens when you remove taxes, and take away the equilibrium that averages out a society. But you should at least appreciate that the greater a disparity between rich and poor, the greater social issue resulting in crime, and well just a st country you get.

Rich people.

The average house is what, £300K, is that rich? Would you rather that there are individuals who are cash rich or a government with some more tax funds? Which do you think will benefit society more? I would do anything to avoid paying a penny to the taxman over and above what was necessary. I already donate to various charities and see little coming back from central government for my tax revenue.

I absolutely hate people who take the moral high ground or pontificate. I mean, what makes them the moral authority? Theyre hypocrites anyway.

no that's absolutely not the case, but i cannot abide armchair experts who say they could do XYZ standing on their head, and yet come up with all manner of excuses why they cannot or will not.

You miss the point. I was simply pointing out a gap in his argument. Put the context back in and you will see what I mean.

Why can’t you answer. I’m just trying to understand a mindset that would rather give his/her money to the government than their own flesh and blood? If you didn’t have children I would understand your position more.

If you had read what I said more carefully then you would know that I didn't say what you are suggesting I did, and therefore wouldn't need to tax your brain with trying to understand my mindset.

No, it has to be from the Bon Scott era. Highway to Hell or Shot Down in Flames. And if one album only, then Highway to Hell. With dear old Brian Johnson, then Back in Black for the album, Have a Drink on me for the song.
Thunderstruck is so great for weights or running, High to Hell doesn't have the same, 'der-der-der-dum!', but I'll check out the other one.

PWeston is just one step away from realising that a Citizens Income scheme is the answer. One flat rate payment from the government, every month, to every adult. No unemployment benefit, no pensions, no child benefit, no universal credits, no nothing else. Just, say, £800 (give or take) to everybody, every month, from their 18th birthday, until death. Then, if you want more money to live on, you work. Nobody goes hungry, nobody goes unhoused. No arguments no special pleading, take the payment, and work if you want more.

https://citizensincome.org/

Any major political party in the UK stands with this in their manifesto, they've got my vote. So many answers, so few downsides.
We could always try it
