Does anyone else get as pee'd off as me with those people who try to make you feel guilty for not drinking Alcohol when you're out?

We're off out for a meal for a friends birthday later and I'll be on the water as i'm trying to do some training so laying off the alcohol. However my "friend" has a habit of trying to persuade me to have a drink & no doubt will have some comments like "don't be so miserable" and "why are you being boring", as if you have to have alcohol to have a good time.

No. I usually take the car when going out. I can watch the carnage unfold and then sneak off later, laughing to myself.

I do drink to have a good time but I can respect when others don't want to get on the booze for whatever reason. I have a "friend" who will constantly pressure people to drink if they're on the soft drinks, even if it's not directed at me it's incredibly irritating.

At work there is a massive drinking culture, people push it on you like they're peddling heroin.

A good time sober is different to a good time drunk.

There are a lot of people who, without realising it, don't really like themselves when they are sober. They prefer their drunk selves, and think everybody else is the same.

If I'm off the booze, sadly rarely, I just don't go out. Nothing worse than spending the night with pi55ed people unless you are the same way yourself.

Can't say I've ever come across that.

I never drink alcohol, most people accept it but like you I have one or two acquaintances who really seem to struggle with the concept.

The nagging ones are the worst as I tend to dig my heels in harder when I know people are pressuring me, then they get cross with me for consistently refusing rolleyes

Leave early. Say when they start their third drink.

This is the only way to do it.

I packed in booze completely last Spring and now cannot be bothered to go out. A meal is fine but fk all the rest of it.

I've got far better things to do with my time than watching others enjoy themselves.

Jealous? Most definitely, but I've made my decision and I'm sticking to it.

I used to enjoy the Dirty Dicks meets in the city but the pressure to do shots/drink loads put a lot of people off.

I always drink when I go out for the evening and I do so because I enjoy it, it puts me at ease and it puts others at ease and as such it's a very effective social lubricant. I don't think its a problem for me and I don't see it as a problem for the majority of people I know either. Of course, there will always be others who try to convince us that it is.

"Some drink to remember
Some to forget
Some for satisfaction
Some to regret"

Why would you want to be sober amongst such company?

Not had a drink for 5-6 years now, don't miss it one bit. I often get asked how can I have a good time sober, I explain that the old me would have turned a good night out into an ugly version of the hangover and world war 3 combined.

"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day."

Frank Sinatra.
