So if I take on 1500 calories, I've got to aim to burn 1500 calories in the gym? Correct?
Thanks!
See the PH masses to the rescue again! Thanks!
Your body requires a certain amount of calories to survive each day. The calorie count is calculated on BMR (Basal metabolic rate) and obviously if you exercise the amount will be higher.
Your aim is to calculate the required amount of calories and then create a calorie deficit. Personally I'd suggest no more than a maximum of your BMR - 750 calories.
Eat too little will result in lots of hunger and this generally means folk fall off the bandwagon!

Thanks! So how do I find my BMR? Or are you suggesting 750 calories burned in a session at the gym should be good?
Here you go;http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
In terms of a calorie deficit it is based on the BMR (which includes exercise) results minus 750.
Bare in mind this is to be used as a guide since all of our body compositions are different.
I always recommend sticking to any exercise plan/diet for 3 months and then re-assessing because you need to give it time to see how it works with you.
Different things work with different people.
I'd recommend you avoid weighing yourself since if you train you will gain muscle but instead use body measurements and/or pictures to see the difference. I take a picture each week at the same time to use as a guide and you will be surprised of the changes if you do the right things and stick to the plan!

Does anyone use wrist straps for training? I'm finding that when training back, the other points in the chain (arms, grip) are the weak link, and I find it hard to work back muscles to failure before everything else has given out. Also, on the machine, I am having to go above body weight, which means that pulling the bar down can be a challenge!
I use straps once my grip fails for things like deadlifting. I only use the straps once my grip fails as this gives my grip chance to improve rather than just relying on straps.

No, it is true - I have a very muscular physique (i.e. powerfully built ), and am pretty strong. I find it very easy to build muscle - but I also find it easy to put on fat, and have rarely been at the body fat levels necessary to see a six pack etc. I don't think I have the discipline or willingness to get down there - but I would like to get rid of an inch around the waist (sides, rather than belly - that's pretty flat) and bum, which is where I seem to store fat.
Even considered liposuction, as I have never been able to shifgt these, even when in hard training/diet. It's frustrating. I'm pretty fit - cycle to work every day, do Krav Maga and boxing 3 evenings a week, and do 3 strength sessions a week. It's pretty clear I need to up my cardio, and maybe cut back on the weight training (I don't want to spend every lunchtime/morning in the gym, ater all!)?
That sounds a lot like me. I'm quite muscular, have broad shoulders and a large chest. I find it pretty easy to build muscle when I'm committed, but I find it difficult to drop weight. Similar to Flash, my stomach is my problem area. Even when I was doing vast amounts of cardio and eating small, healthy meals, I couldn't really lose weight from my stomach. Apparently it's a common trait in my family. No, it is true - I have a very muscular physique (i.e. powerfully built ), and am pretty strong. Thank God I have the physique I do, otherwise I'd look like Buddha. Any tips guys?
Very, very occasionally its a medical condition but that is pretty unlikely.
I'm of the same camp that I can gain muscle relatively easy and also losing fat is harder.

Sorry but you can't do what he has done without chemical enhancement in that time frame.

Fair enough. Not sure on the fat bit, though. Sorry but you can't do what he has done without chemical enhancement in that time frame.
Sure the end result is superb, it requires massive dedication and sacrifice but its also very dishonest even though I understand their sponsor contracts are required to fund something that often costs several thousand a month before food. Obviously they also can't mention it as it would severely tar the image of their sponsor so when you seem them in magazines/adverts saying they get what they need from X supplement you know its nonsense.
Professional bodybuilding is probably the most unhealthy sport out there.

I've seen it before. The reason why I know he's using is you can't spend a large proportion of the year cutting and gain 35lbs of muscle (his figures) naturally.
So to put that into context he lost about 15% body fat and gained 2.5 stone of muscle in a year and if that wasn't enough he has 3 hour training sessions every day......

I think he said that in that time he spent only the last 3 months cutting. The reason why I know he's using is you can't spend a large proportion of the year cutting and gain 35lbs of muscle (his figures) naturally.

Hows your training coming along?

I recorded Captain America for my kids - hadn't seen it before - and wondered about the training/diet/ped(?) routines these actors get put on to bulk up for films. Anyone seen the before an after on Chris Evans (and pals) and have any views?
Pretty much all of the stars use ped's. Although I don't know about the crew of Captain America.Did you see what Dr Dre did with a year of HGH and ped's, amazing!

Appointment with consultant Tuesday week. Hopefully get a better idea then.
Not to worry. I'm still here to spout bks on demand.
If anyone wants a fight, the tension is building up quite nicely.
Good stuff, not being able to train is always a kicker! Not to worry. I'm still here to spout bks on demand.

Did you decide if you are going private or not?
I actually find training helps me a great deal to manage my aggression. I've always had a high level of aggression and over the years I've managed to lengthen my temper from non-existent to monk like patience but its always still there.
I find it funny sometimes because if I wear glasses when I get aggressive they steam up which always makes me laugh at myself.

What do you guys reckon to shakes etc?
See loads of people with them at the gym, the vending machines there have all sorts of stuff..
Protein shakes are definitely useful for getting extra protein in. See loads of people with them at the gym, the vending machines there have all sorts of stuff..
There is a thread just below about them, balders and co have offered some great advice on them.
Don't bother with the machines though, buy it yourself if you want to do it, much cheaper!
