I stopped smoking 14 years ago.

But.

I can still be found having the odd 1 or 3 if on a big night out with the lads. It's weird, sober and its the last thing I'd do. Thoroughly pissed and it is still rather pleasant. It's not every time I go out though so I can go several months without and it doesn't cross my mind.

Everything in moderation.

Oh and free too, only ever smoke other peoples tabs.

Yesterday went well. We were so busy I didn't get any time to crave a fag (mind you I didn't get time for a break, a piss stop, a st, or any food either)
Today I'm in nights so we shall see how things work out. I'm confident though smile
The first 5 days are the worst in my experience, after that it gradually gets easier. Once a month has gone by you'll feel so much better.
I find if you exercise it helps a lot. It allows you to really notice the difference and helps motivate you.

Good luck OP

Good luck, I'm not a smoker or have ever been, detest the stink an the thought of setting fire to my money does not compute.
Helpful comment, I assume you put petrol in your car?
Unfortunately I do put petrol in the car, however this is mildly easier to take as I don't have a choice if I want to get around
You could walk or cycle locally, or take the train for longer journeys. Or the bus.

Good luck to ya mate hope it works for ya.

I smoke and have no intention or urge or inclination to give up, but I respect your decision for trying.
(See how easy it is to respect someone elses choices non-smokers)
See the thing is, three years ago, I would have agreed with you. But as a reformed smoker, I realise what a very selfish and unsociable habit it really is. I'm incredibly embarrassed by the fact, that other people have had to endure the effects of my destructive and offensive addiction.

I honestly never thought that I would be a 'reformed smoker' but it is only now, that I realise how repugnant it really is.

By smoking, you simply deny the choice of non-smokers around you. I was at the hospital with my other half last week (a non-smoking site) and I popped outside to eat my lunch (opposite where everyone smokes...) So, there I was, Sat on the wall munching away, when two others sat near me and sparked up. Now the thing is, it probably never even crossed their minds that they stank me out, but the simple fact is, I had to move away - Which wasn't my choice.

So, to the OP, if it helps. I used the logic that if I was to have a cigarette (even a drag), the counter would be reset back to zero. And what would be the point in suffering for the last hour/day/week/year to have thrown that away? But don't dwell on the negative, view it as, "wow, I've gone three days without one!"

I've just got to persuade Wife and daughter now...

Im in the for the long haul mate. I gave up on Saturday night. The missus said she didnt want to kiss me because I stank of smoke. So right there and then I pulled my ciggies out my pocket and crushed them and chucked them away. It was the reason I was looking for.

Got some Nicorette gum and cracking on. Only bitten 2 of my mates heads of and upset the missus once so far.
