I know there are a number of threads running at the moment, and I've commented on other people's in the last few months, but without wishing to hijack others' threads, I wanted to share my experience on weight loss over the last few months.

Why?
Because I'm right bloody pleased and smug with myself. smile

Having seen our holiday snaps from last August, I really didn't like how I looked, big round face, big love handles and quite a beer belly.

There's no excuse for how I'd let myself go and nor do I expect to be built like Jenson Button in the future, but with a little common sense and some exercise, I've made quite an impact since I started my régime at the beginning of September

I'm 1.80m tall and started on the scales at 114.9kg, or 18st 1lb in "old money".
I wore 48R suits.

I've been logging all my food intake online at weightlossresrouces.co.uk , making the most of their online meal plans and not skimping on the calories. I started at around 1,900/day to lose 1kg/week. As you log your results and weight loss, the calorie limits/day reduces accordingly, but not by silly amounts.

I began swimming a minimum of 1km 3x/week and circuit training in our staff gym (we have a Milo system installed plus free weights & machines) also for 3x/week.

After 4 weeks my weight loss stalled. I was a little miffed as I'd been sticking to a good diet, not being hungry or suffering pangs at all.
Our gym instructors are all qualified dieticians "nutritional advisers", so I explained my predicament to one of them. One of the trainers suggested I wasn't eating enough, so my body was storing rather than losing fat, and he suggested that 1 day/week that I eat a more "normal" diet, i.e. not limited to my 6days/week intake limits, which would kick-start my metabolism.

It worked! smile

I've continued to lose weight each week, even over Christmas & New Year when I was eating quite a lot more and drinking quite some beers - but we were skiing in Canada so I was burning a lot of calories too.

Skiing over Christmas & New Year was a JOY, not a breathless, wheezing chore to keep up with my children. I really, really enjoyed it! The extra fitness and strength I have now, coupled with carrying so much less lard around, also meant I've finally been able to master mogul (sp?) fields.

At the beginning of this week I weighed in at 96kg, so a loss so far of 18.9kg or 3 stones.

I treated myself today by going to the Hugo Boss store across the street and buying 3, yes, THREE, new suits for work - 44R, so 2 sizes smaller, They all fit perfectly off the peg.

woohoo

Boss didn't fit me when I was buying 48R suits from other places even last year.

I've still another 6 or 7 kg to go, but that's mainly on my love handles (which are massively reduced) and thighs (which have always been big as I used to be a sprint cyclist.)

I know everyone's different, even their metabolic rate, but I just wanted to say to those who may have started a FatFighters thing for the New Year, hang in there. I, for one, feel great now!

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Dietician, nutritionist ... I can't recall if that translates in Cherman. wink

Thanks - I will post up some pics.

Losses have slowed now, although I've not been that strict on the diet stuff if I'm honest, weighed in at 93.5 on Monday. I am still logging my food intake and exercise on weightlossresources.co.uk but having 6 pints on Friday night and a ham hock for dinner too wasn't a great move! laugh

I WILL reach my target before Easter holidays.

Thanks for the comments.
Pferdestarke: that's some going too, well done!

I don't know if anyone knows, but is there such a thing as a way of "recovering quickly" from exercise, you know... getting over the 'burn' sensation you get when the muscles are healing? I spents HOURS cleaning my car on Sat, then drilling into block walls to put up LOADS of shelves yesterday, followed by a 1.5km swim, in a new record time (for me) of 42mins.
My upper arms, shoulders and thighs are quite painful today. *whinces*
I really want to go to the gym for circuit training later, but I'm thinking I've ovedone it at the weekend already. Is it better to hold off 'til tomorrow?

Gym bike is your friend. Do 30 minutes of easy pedaling and go kerazy tomorrow.
30 minutes of easy pedalling? Hmmmm.... that was 14km. smile

Did the same today at lunch on my *ahem* "rest day".

Well done on your weightloss, too. May I ask, how much did you weigh before?

There are limits.... where's the yellow card for not liking beer any more? wink
I had a beer last night, just the one. I used to have 4 or 5 pints EVERY night, but I could never give that up completely. I mean, what would a SOBER Le Mans be like? Purgatory, I expect! :-O

My daughters still have the odd pizza and they have some sweets too, but never anything in excess. Mind you, they won't even touch any fizzy drinks, and never have (they're 10 1/2 & 12) so that's not an issue for either of them. smile

Pics as requested... I tried the "before" pics from the camera, but Thumbsnap was messing about. Anywhoooo, 1st pic, suit trousers I wore to my Mum's (3rd!) wedding last April, and which are now massive on me.

Jeans that were snug fitting, I.e., my gut hung over the top of them, which I can now put on and take off without undoing them.

3kg to go. smile

Thanks, both. I'm looking forward to seeing my family in the UK next week as they've not seen me this size for about 15 years. smile

Well done, J4ckos mate!

After spending last week in the UK, not sticking to my usual diet and exercise regime, but not overdoing it hugely, I've managed not to gain any weight, which was nice.

Off to the gym after work to crank up the CV levels in a bid to shift the remaining few kg. smile

Firstly, well done on the losses!

The "stats" say I shouldn't be more than 82kg for the 'healthy BMI', but I'm sure I'd look very ill if I dropped that low, and my gym instructor's confirmed that.

Only you can tell what you'll be comfortable with. If you dropped to 12st and then decided it was a step too far, it's not too difficult to bulk up again.

I do think, however, that once you've lost weight and start to feel 'comfortable' or pleased with yourself, there are 2 ways you can go,
- putting the weight back on again, or,
- going too far, becoming addicted to the training and actually looking worse for it. (Apologies to those people here who have perhaps 3-4% B.F., but it's not for me smile )
It's possibly more difficult to find a "happy size" and maintaining it.
