This hurt should I go to the Drs?

I managed to hit my thumb on Saturday with a large hammer and yes it hurt.. I am wondering if I should go to the see the nurse at the doctors just to get it checked out. I can move it but it is painful if I knock it or catch it on anything.. It is actually now quite numb with almost a pins and needles feel where it has swollen. Dont't like to mkae a fuss and waste peoples time but just wondered if any doctors were about to comment? Been taking ibruprofen since I did it. Thanks
