Well after not much thought, very little research and a quick look round the car, I've decided to take the plunge and buy my first Impreza.

Saw the car advertised at a local dealer on autotrader last week, went and had a look today and thought might as well.........

Its a 2006 WRX, 50,000 miles, service history to 40,000 miles and seemed in pretty good condition.
Noticed there was no stamp on the 50,000 mile service, which includes the cambelt. They're going to do the cambelt and service, give it a years MOT and I should be able to pick it up at the weekend/start of next week driving

It should be a bit of a change from the 12 year old fiesta I've been pooteling around in for the last year.

Fingers crossed I've bought a good one laugh

So what have I got my self into people?

No PPP I'm afraid, would have liked it but this one was the right car at the right time and the right price, and after reading the PPP insurance thread I decided to stick with a standard one for now as I'll be paying more than enough any way.

It gets better and better!

Thanks for the advice with the exhaust, I did another quote to get an Idea, if it had an aftermarket exhaust already fitted it would cost me a total of 7 british pounds more to insure than the standard car laugh

So I guess £30 quid to add one after will be about right, seems like a bit of a bargain, but it's definitely something I'll be asking about when I take out the policy.

GRRR phone call from dealer this morning, car won't be ready til thursday or friday now as the engine management light they said they would sort needed a new part ordering and it only came in today. Didn't ask what it was but will find out when I pick it up, interested to know what the problem was.

Still on the plus side at least it sounds like they're doing a proper job on it rather than a botch, itching to get my dirty paws on it though!

Well picked it up this afternoon, well happy! A massive step up from the fiesta in every way, although my record of only owning cars with tape decks still stands!

The sound when the turbo spools up is pretty addictive although I've mostly been stuck in traffic with it, but the few times I broke away and got to put my foot down a bit the car felt great and really good fun to drive.

Planning to get up early tomorrow for a proper run out around the Suffolk/Norfolk countryside, hopefully at 5am the roads will be quiet, fingers crossed it wont rain tonight and doesn't drop too cold.

Cheers for the comments, really loving the car so far. Another bonus is, it will fit in the garage, just (will need to be very careful)! Which was lucky as I never checked before hand, but I now need to buy a shed as all the crap that was stored in the garage with the fiesta no longer fits.

Was up and out at 5am this morning, had a really good blast out, have already managed to overtake more cars than I ever did in the fiesta. The roads were dead, a little damp and very misty/foggy in places but overall it was a great run out and had a 2 hour blast around.

Still getting used to the car, I certainly need to keep a closer eye on the speedo, very easy to press on with out even realising it. Also took a few corners with a bit too much speed this morning, I just didn't realise how much speed I was carrying. Something I really need to keep in check.

Still the honeymoon period but overall well happy.

And going from a Fiesta to that you'll feel invincible! Just be careful as you only have to over do it once! Be safe smile
Some good advice that, scared myself a few times the other day but managed to keep it under control, def made me think though! To be honest Its not so much the feeling of invincibility, its that when ragging the arse out of the fiesta it sounds like the engine is about to come through the bonnet and it just can't get up that much speed any way, this thing isn't even trying and your already doing silly speeds.

The couple of times I got caught it was because I just didn't realise how fast I was actually going until I checked the speedo. Until I get properly used to the car I'll be keeping a very close eye on the speedo. Especially before entering corners that I don't know!

Some one else mentioned the Nur spec r, I do quite fancy fitting one but at £600 I think the missus might just walk out on me if go buy one right now laugh

And I really don't want to be hearing any death rattle either, not at £2500 a pop, I need to go pick up some oil for it actually, always nice to have some in, just in case.

Oh and Clarki, Just get it done laugh

Well after getting a shed delivered this week and spending the last few afternoons in the pcensoredsing rain and cold building it, the car finally fits in the garage now, which should keep the insurers happy. I'm glad Its off the street too.

Bit of a tight squeeze, but can just about get in and out, better not put any more weight on though! Need to put something up on the wall too to protect the door, a bit of old carpet should do the trick I think.

And so I know when the cars in, one of my daughters rubber ducks, The missus wasn't too happy when I told her, but I didn't have any thing else to hand that was suitable laugh

Also had to get it taxed today, £460, didn't actually check the tax before I bought her, but had a figure of about £600 in mind (not too sure where I got that from). So despite almost wanting to throw up at the thought of another nearly £500 leaving my account this month I was also pleasantly surprised laugh

Managed to offload the fiesta onto an in law too, only scrap money really as A. Its knackerd and B. they're related (sort of).
But at least it should be out of the way by next week some time.

Haven't really had too much of a chance to get out for a proper drive again this week, just driving to town and back really, mostly stuck in traffic, hopefully will be able to get out for another early morning hoon again and stretch her legs a bit this weekend!

Cheers, I have a bit of faith in the cam belt, the dealer I bought the car from was an ex Subaru dealer, now an indy, they've also been looking after the car for the past 3 or so years since it came to the area, doing the servicing, mot's etc so i'm hopeful it has been done properly, really don't want the engine to lunch itself any time soon!

Also gave me a warranty on the car when I bought it, but hopefully won't be needing that.

My next plan for the garage is to get some full width shelves down the far end above bonnet height, maybe 3 or 4 depending on space. Should be able to get a few tool boxes and things on them as it's a bit more secure than the shed. But any Ideas welcome thumbup, as you can see its not exactly a tardis in there.

Yep, will be copying Pauls design, or at least something similar, my old mans going to scrounge me up some wood from his work, so it depends what he turns up with.

Put some carpet up today, didn't realise it could scratch the paint, don't really have anything else to hand I can use, the carpet should do in the short term and has to be better than the door/brick wall interface. Will have to have a think and see if I can scrounge up any thing more suitable.

I wanted a black one! I think the Impreza's looks great in black, garage looks good too, think mine could use a coat or 2 of paint looking at both of yours, might get round to it one day!

Yeah, I bet it's much harder to shift the post 06 daylight robbery tax bracket cars. Whilst an extra £200 isn't a great deal in the scheme of running a car, It's £200 extra I'd rather not have to hand directly to the government because my car was sold after an arbitrary date.
yes It's £200 that could have gone into my petrol tank! Lord knows they'll be getting enough revenue from me at the pumps now!

Well windscreen got chipped today, annoyingly on the same road and pretty much the same location as the fiestas got chipped last winter rolleyes

Its only a tiny chip, about 5mm but its there and its annoying because I know its there. Also caught an alloy on a curb this evening so not a good day really.

The alloys already had a fair bit of curb damage on all 4, and there are some other old battle scars and paint chips as well as a dent and crack in the bumper and a spot under the boot lid where the paint has rubbed through (nothing major for a 6 year old car though), all of which I knew about before I bought her.

So the plan for the new year is, the car will be garaged for the first few months as I will be out of the country working, the missus isn't touching my P and J!!

When I'm home she'll be booked into a local body shop to sort the crack in the bumper, paint it, get rid of the stone chips and the rust patch in the boot.
Not sure if I'm going to refurb the alloys or just swap the tyres to some winter rubber and buy some aftermarket alloys for the summer months, something I will think about while I'm at work.
The stone chip in the screen will be sorted.
And depending on how flush I feel after all that I might well get her properly detailed as it will be spring and hopefully the weather will be better.

Think thats about it really but I'm sure I'll be adding more jobs to the list over the next few months, still haven't decided if she'll be staying standard or not. Currently fancy keeping her completely standard, but whenever I have a look round the internet I can put together quite a shopping list!

Oh and the garage hasn't been progressed any as I'm still waiting on a delivery of free wood!

Do not sticker imo, it looks dated these days, presuming by "sticker" you mean neon green rally livery stickers.

Save your money for a Blitz Nur Spec and a bigger spoiler.
Haa no way! sorry, let me clarify, I meant a PH smiley only.

Totally agree with the neon livery, looks very dated and don't really have the performance under the bonnet to pull it off properly either!

PH smiley has been ordered so just have to decide where to place it now thumbup
