That's normally the case, but I take it we are talking about LH grid penalty and as I see it the gearbox change was a result of an accident not caused by himself, so how is that fair for the driver or the team to be penalised.

^ This is called bad luck and happens in all sports. The rules are (or should be) the same for everyone and generally the luck does even out over time.

People talk about it being about the fastest driver and so on......... it really isn't. F1 is probably 95% about the team and the car. It is very rare for a driver to 'out perform' the car on a consistent basis and I dare say there are a dozen or more drivers on the grid could have won the championship in that Merc the last 2 years.

As it happens only Lewis and Nico have that chance and when you have such an opportunity I don't think you can really grumble when something minor like this goes wrong. It is a team sport, the situation is unlucky and that is all that can be said IMO.
