Interesting but not too sure on the sloping rear wing end plates, bit too much A1GP batmobile look about it, raked front wing looks OK as does the rear wing height and width

Whenever I see these "What will F1 Look Like in X Years Time" pictures I always assume that they won't look much like the projections.
Way back in 1971 or so, I used to draw a book out of our local library called "Motor Racing, The International Way" which was, in effect, a review of the 1970 GP season. One of the articles was a projection of what F1 would be like by 1975. I always remember that the artist's impression of the cars looked nothing like how they actually ended up in 1975.
A few months ago I found the book again in a charity bookshop and am delighted to have it in my collection. I discovered that the article had been written by the great L J K Setright.

Has the idea of 17" rims been dropped?
I thought it was 18inch rims? When Brundle tested 18inch rims on a a GP2 car he found visibility significantly reduced.
I think the mechanics will also struggle with tyre changes due to the extra weight of larger wheels.

But this rendering has been made with the measurements I assume from the FIA and the recent strategy meetings not something some reporter somewhere would like the cars to look like, OK design wise there will be many more tweeks but I believe the dimensions were supplied in order to produce this rendering
Do we really want a bigger front wing/overhang?
Shame the rules are so tight that different teams will come up with broadly the same answers. Why not regulate wings on a max total surface area front and rear (maybe include diffuser surface area in here) to allow more freedom in designing where the wing should be.

Any chance of posting up a pic of the predictions Eric?Way back in 1971 or so, I used to draw a book out of our local library called "Motor Racing, The International Way" which was, in effect, a review of the 1970 GP season. Interesting that from the 2 "future looking", one saw a straight extrapolation of the cars of the time, and the other saw much more of an aero driven future (and interestingly, 4WD)
Four wheel drive had been tried in 1969/70 and could possibly have been more popular had not the advent of downforce produced increased grip with less complexity and weight.Looking at the future from 1970, four wheel drive might have seemed a viable technology for F1.

he doesn't say why he struggled tho'? because aren't they supposed to be the same size/rolling radius as 13's?When Brundle tested 18inch rims on a a GP2 car he found visibility significantly reduced.

they'd probably be using it now if it hadn't of been bannedLooking at the future from 1970, four wheel drive might have seemed a viable technology for F1.
