Getting a tuned busa past 200, is just a case of picking what route, your going turbo, big bore etc.

Like some of the others have said, i think alot of it, at the speeds wanted is aero performance, then diminishing results for more power, as the record holding busa, needed over 700bhp to get to 256mph.
In comparison a stock BMW S1000RR, developing 189rwhp, was gps clocked at 186mph by one of the mags, at bruntingthorpe.

550+bhp, the correct gearing and an aerodynamic car, then head over to Germany.
If you pick your time and place, there are a few stretches where you could hit 200mph.
Some are a lot quieter than others.
Artics are banned from the autobahns on some days as well.
good luck with that plan If you pick your time and place, there are a few stretches where you could hit 200mph.

With 400bhp, i could see 180mph GPS verified every day if i wanted.
A lot of people on here are discussing hitting 200mph from a standing start, over as short a distance as possible.
For that you need a lot of power, as people have already mentioned.
If you are already travelling at 140-150mph, you need less power to hit 200 than you would from a standing start, and you'll be putting a lot less stress on a car doing it that way.
The proper way to hit 200 is to build up in speed steps, let the car cool and settle, then give it another burst of throttle.
Going from a standing start, especially with turbos, will put massive heat through the car.
Oh, and another thing, people are saying they have done 130,140 or 150mph, and that was scary, so they couldn't comprehend doing much more than that.
Try getting a a large sporting saloon with more than 400bhp.
It makes 150, 160 or 170mph a bit too easy, and if people who actually own the sports saloons were a bit more honest, i'd suggest that a lot of them have done more than 170 on UK roads at least once in their ownership.

There was an interesting thread on here about a guy trying to buy and tune a Mazda RX7 to get to 200mph for £10k, I think he got fairly close until the car was written off in a crash and he had to start again.
This is the one I think http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=784...
The biggest issue with hitting 200mph is the power required to overcome the aerodynamic issue.
It makes very very very little difference (~2mph) if you do the 1.85 miles at Brunters from either a standing start at the start of the straight or with a ~100mph rolling start coming off the bottom corner.

Best bet surely has to be a Skyline R33 or Supra. These often crop up for sale with huge bhp.
In 2006, I was passenger in a Ferrari 430 that did 198mph (speedo indicated) on a (short) section of dual carriage way. It was not that exciting, the car just took a bit longer to stop approaching the next roundabout.

If you consider the forces with the same car driving along on the ground at 200mph, I think it's much more englightening. You're in a regime where the dominant force is aerodynamics, and the forces involved can toss the car about like it's made of paper, if something goes wrong.
(example on salt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNYIjG3se3I ).
(example on runway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0oJ2wQiu2Y ).
It's one thing to get up to 200, but going by these examples another thing entirely to get safely back down.(example on salt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNYIjG3se3I ).

Muzzy do a nitrous kit for $350 that gives +40bhp taking a ZX12r to comfortably over the 200bhp mark, which should do the trick
£7000 and some testicles will do it fairly easily i'd say

Racing fuel + 30psi + 350bhp , that would give new meaning to the phrase "scared to death"
