I still fail to grasp why more people don't reverse park. You can judge where you are in the space easier using your mirrors, and it's far easier to spot passing traffic or pedestrians when driving out.

Because, when you return to your car laden with shopping it's easier to access the boot.

Yup, this.

I make a conscious decision as to which way I'm going to park, and boot access is one of the things I consider. I'd rather not reverse in knowing that I'm going to be coming back with 100kg of cement, for example.

What I find bemusing is people who don't consider which way they need their vehicle to face. I park a few inches from their rear bumper and then they get the hump that they can't get into their boot. fk 'em. They shouldn't be parking their big luminous van right outside a hospital.

When I go shopping at the local supermarket, all the parent and child spaces have a walkway between the rows, almost invariably they are parked nose in. There are a few spaces at the end for general parking, most people who park in those (including myself when they are available) reverse in.

That sort of thing never has bothered me - a few times I've had to jump in the car and roll it forward a few feet before loading up, just one of those things.

Different features such as this are why people should be considering which way they need to park instead of always using the same direction regardless.

If there's a pavement between spaces, reverse in. If there's a wall or another row of spaces instead, and I need to access the boot, then nose in. If it's just my toddler and me, then park whichever way will prevent returning to someone parked close to the passenger side so I can get her strapped in without issue.

I also thought that was pretty funny.

Maybe to access the boot a bit easier when loading the shopping/pram etc?

Proven beyond doubt reversing is safer in car parks, notwithstanding that, I have always done that and have never had a problem getting the shopping in the boot.

Those who say they cant, are usually making excuses because they cant reverse park laugh

So of the car park is busy you would rather leave your trolley by the bonnet and carry your bags between your car and the next, hoping that someone else hasn’t parked close to your bumper, all while feeling smug about your driving skills?

Zig zag markings the road so just park fully on the pavement.
But it's OK because barbers.

He sticks the shopping under the bonnet and it's cooked by the time he gets home biggrin

I don't think anyone here is saying they can't reverse park, we seem to be split into two groups:
1) always reverse in, don't assess your surroundings, never consider any other factors, just reverse in.
Vs
2) assess which direction is more appropriate for this particular situation and park in that direction.

It’s ignorance and ego. You’re happy to admit you’re not as confident reversing out, so you reverse in and you feel it’s safer for you. If everyone like you who struggles with parking was happy to admit it and realise it’s not a reflection on their manhood the world would be a better place. Big respect to you, screw it, I’m no good at parallel parking.

Who’s with me and beny admitting they are not driving gods?

I went to my usual Tesco this afternoon and parked in one of my favourite places quite a way from the store to hopefully avoid a scabby van/SUV/4X4 being wedged against it and/or door dents. End of a row with a walkway to my right so I know I'll be able to get my door open and a drive-through so no need to reverse, and even if someone parked behind me I could load the boot from the trolley on the walkway.

It's not exactly complicated!
