One that seemed heavily pushed at the time (I seem to remember that it featured heavily on one of the TV ads) was the panoramic windscreen (or should that be middle-aged receding roofline?) on the Astra. I've seen it in pictures but never spotted one on the road - I believe they also offered the same concept on the zafira too, but never seen one of those either.

My neighbour has an Astra with the panoramic roof, only one I've seen though.

Saw a Rover 75 with a vinyl roof the other day.
Identical (same car?) as this one.

Not sure if it's a very rare option or an aftermarket job, I've never seen one before

its an aftermarket job. have seen that exact car around before though. if you google rover 75 vinyl roof, you will find the guy on the mgrover forums talking about it. ive seen it a few times around the lichfield area though.

Mad. I know it's all relative on a £100k+ car but surely you could just paint them yourself for ~£20?

Seeing as that appears to be a real car I'd say it wasn't rare enough!

Thank you both; I am happy to be corrected but whilst the E24 rear air-con was quite common in the U.S. I think mine is the only UK car fitted with the unit and I think mine is the only UK E34 Touring with the rear blind fitted. The E38 rear entertainment unit isn't unicorn rare like the first two examples but still pretty rare on UK cars - the rest of the spec on the E38 is pretty high with all round blinds, picnic tables, vanity lights and mirrors, rear phone, rear stereo and passenger seat controls, writing board and pen-holder as well as rear heated and reclining seats.

The E34 also has the Alpina addition digital display which is fairly rare in the UK; it shows oil pressure, oil temperature, Switch-Tronic gear selection and rear differential oil temperature...

I'll bet this isn't specified very often. Why have a passenger seat when you can have a shoe box?

Hmm... wonder how many I'll see around the West End of London, given the number of big Mercs I see with the passenger seat pushed as far forward as it'll go!

One more rare option that's just popped into my head, is built in children's booster seats in the rear seats.

Seen them advertised and in brochures a few times, but never actually seen a car that they've been specced on.

Have seen these on an E39 5-Series.
Seen these in most new XC90s

I've owned half a dozen Volvos, and the only two that didn't have that were the ones I bought new, because I don't need it.
