As you were folks. The sword of truth and justice has been wielded, and any suggestion that we're not entirely proud of the fine tradition of engineering at Lotus has been excised from the original post.

As Riggers has already pointed out above, Lotus is one of his favourite marques - so the original article didn't read quite as intended, obviously.

He's gone home for his tea, so not here to defend himself further! smile

That is one neat looking sports car. If I was in the market for that kind of car it would be fun to check it out (and buy it if better than competitors)

This .

The flack pointed in PH's direction is entirely justified. This is their job, after all. It is not too much to ask, to expect some semblance of intelligent writing on PH, somewhere...

I am in danger of sounding like some pompous arse, I know, but I really wish PH had some decent writing in it..

I still treasure some of the editions of CAR magazine I collected over the years, reading about the Lamborghini LP500 and the first generation GT3 when it was launched. There was some fantastic writing in those magazines and, even now, years later, they are still a pleasure to read. They excite and interest the reader so that you imagine you are there , driving these cars..

Now that content is shifting on-line, i see no reason why we still cannot hope for decent motoring journalism.

Granted, this was just a silly little news item. But the jokes were so lame that even the writer apologised before he wrote them ( a tip here - if the thing you are writing is so unfunny that you feel the need to apologise for it in the same piece of copy, then it is probably best not to write it at all...)....

The piece also originally tried to play the angle that the fact that the boss of Lotus is Italian must have helped - when in fact he is Turkish. I think the internet phrase for this kind of effort these days is "epic fail" or something...

Come on chaps. Go and read some Russell Bulgin if you need tips.

Sorry to blather on in such a way, but I think many PH'ers love to read good motoring journalism. PH is fun, but it could ( maybe should ) be much more considering it is the UK's number one motoring site.

Or maybe I am just being prickly today, in which case I will go away.. smile

Is it really necessary for PH to write snide crap like this? Why can;t you just report the story instead of being smug about it and fuel the army of Lotus haters that plague every Evora thread? Is this Top Gear magazine all of a sudden? Is there any need for implications of shoddy engineering and poor sales, neither of which are relevant or based on anything but prejudice?

I used to expect better from PH. You are not Clarkson and all the better for it. If you pepper articles with inane snide prejudice that doesn't relate to the subject matter then where will we go for adult motoring news?

Next week on PH!

XKR-S takes 9 minutes to do the ring! TVR's smell of glue!

Tell you what you could hire Chris Harris to write blogs about how he is better than everyone else and include the words "911 GT3RS" in every review, even of a van.
Best post on here in ages!

Is it just me that sees the irony in complaining about journalistic standards and then launching into such a cliche irate anti Top Gear post on an internet forum?
Cathalm for what it's worth I'm not really having a pop - I share much the same view - it's just that I'm also tired of reading posts that lack much sense of proportion or, dare I say it, grace.

Clive, I don't feel that what I said lacked proportion. Okay so i had a bit of fun with the top gear thing I'll give you that. My point stands though and I think you can see that by and large folks agree. I reference top gear because it's become the common example of poor motoring journalism and the tone of this article reads like a Richard Porter piece. If I didn't like PH I wouldn't comment but I'm used to a better standard on here and from Riggers. I don't want PH to start pandering to the top gear philosophy of throwing out facts and standards in favour of a pre decided execrable narrative. There is no value to the sniping in this article, it added nothing and detracted a lot for me.

As for a lack of grace, well I'm not entirely sure where grace comes in to the process of posting opinion on an Internet enthusiasts group, but okay I'll take it on the chin since I seem to have caught the mood.

You miss an important distinction. It is the job of PH to provide the content. We just consume it.

People on the forum can be as cliched, sloppy or unfunny as they want. But we should expect high quality content from a professional website - its their job.

In the future when I think of something to post on PH I will just email cathalm and ask him if he could do it for me in his own words. Refreshingly sensible and articulate.

I thought this article's original tone was a bit too sneery. And it is too easy to excuse the original tone as a reaction to the obvious Lotus PR deal - how many press articles are initially jolted into life, or the journo given a spark of inspiration for a different angle from some PR release.

Anyway, I enjoy the articles on PH by Riggers and team so you should take the comments by some of us as a compliment - if we thought you just recycled crap PR we wouldn't bother ranting about the quality of this one.

Porsche 911s For Italian Carabinieri

There's going to be some faces of thunder in Modena when they hear about this one...

'Just don't tell Ferrari, all right?'
'Just don't tell Ferrari, all right?'
The Italian Carabinieri have just taken on a pair of Porsche 911 models. The cars will undertake a two-year 'tour of duty' with the division of the Italian army (which plays a similar role in Italy to Scotland Yard in the UK), working in and around Rome and Milan.

According to the Porsche press release, Colonel Marco Minicucci of the Carabinieri said: "Our special Porsche 911s combine the very best of our technology with excellent German engineering from Stuttgart."

They've also been equipped with trick voice recognition technology and a portable refrigeration compartment has been fitted behind the front seats, which will allow for the rapid transport of vital organs and blood required during medical emergencies.

We suppose it's quite a coup, really, as it's not as though the Italians don't have a few fast car manufacturers on their own doorsteps...

(And would it be cruel of us to suggest that Porsche needs to do everything it can to get 911s out the door considering they are built with such inherent flaws as having the engine slung out the back like a baboons arse?)

I actually met a guy who's job it is to do organ runs between hospitals here in Australia. He has been on many driving courses and can basically drive as fast as he considers safe when 'on the job'

Chief of ACT police has a speedcamera photo of him near Parliment House ACT (Australia) tripling the speed limit!

Funny enough he's actually tired of the job and wants to give it up after doing 9 years of it.

Had some bloody great stories of driving fast though.
