Jonny SmIth tries out the MST mk2

That gearbox? resonance would get on my tits though!
Really enjoyed that but I have a question, respect it is built from a new shell but how are they able to register as a new car when it does not meet current requirements etc.

That was my first thought and it obviously wasn’t explained in the video, if you can register a Caterham as a new car, then this should prove no more problematic.

It has a very high percentage of new parts and has been built to the kit-car regulations needing an IVA test (what used to be SVA test)

Some more details here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5RobgafBtU&t=...

Honest question: Can someone explain to me why an ancient ford chassis is so desirable?
By any metric - it isn't.

I love them and had a few when they were £3-5k and at the time 328i etc were 10k+

They were cheap, lightweight, RWD fun but in no way are they worth £60k - old men trying to relive their youth

There are a lot of young guys also building up Mk1 and Mk2 escorts.

They are iconic cars loved by many, their money their choice, simple really.

Unless its a full rally prep car, then really its not an escort anymore and actually a competition car and worlds away from the floppy, boomy box we remember from our youth.

How come this is fine when we heard last week of a 70 year old
Jaguar fan having to crush his car and sell his house for doing the same?

A) It looks super cool
B) It is relatively small and light
C) Its rear wheel drive
D) Huge aftermarket support

Other than the price, what's not to like?

Yep they don't exactly match the cars they were talking about as 'Escorts'.
