Is there some sort of mathematical formula that will tell us at precisely at what point cars that we used to consider to be ahit, we suddenly think of as cool?

Mine was my first car. The cowman where I worked was a miserable cock but liked his car. He had a D plate R5 GT Turbo. Obviously I can't do his voice on the computer but he kept saying how it was a "proper fast car" through his hair lip. Oh how I laughed when the turbo failed. The piss taking stopped over night

On the subject of handling. I still think mine (D. reg 120LSE) had steering as good as anything I've driven since and I still prefer how it handled compared to a front wheel drive. You have not lived until you have sampled a Skoda Estelle in a cross wind

Crude but easy to work on, tough characterful and fun.
They weren't about straight line speed but more about getting each bit of a drive right. You also had to "get" the idea of a rear engine. Some people just can't get their head round it and think it must be wrong because it's not like their car. But to anyone who isn't in the know just think when did you last hear someone who owned a rear engined car (911, Alpine, Smart, Beetle or Beach Buggy) describe their car as dull?
