certainly doesn't sound right. The 3rd Gen was praised for it's handling when new. How old are the tyres? Crappy cheap hard tyres will not serve you well in a car like this. Then it's onto checking all the usual suspension wear items like bushes, balljoints, shocks and springs.

A few aftermarket mods can totally transform them too, which it's worth remembering American cars are designed to modded in the aftermarket, the "out of the box" setup is very much a middle ground to cater for the masses.
Found the problem. The rear tyres have a rotational pattern and are on backwards !!!!

That's not going to help grip in the wet !!

I've recently been asking the very same questions, so here's some of my thoughts:

Jag S Type R will give you a V8 and big power. However as standard it's probably more muted than you'd like, plus it's Auto only and these are a known weak point. Feels a bit cramped inside too.

MG ZT 260 will give you the V8 (from a Mustang), but not the power of most other options. However after test driving one I was surprised by the turn of speed, certainly better than I expected and I almost bought it. It's designed to be a drivers car and could handle much more power so feels solid and should be very reliable.

TVR Chimaera - the car I sold to fund the next V8. Sounds great but loud all the time (didnt bother me). Can have a few TVR quirks, especially in your price bracket, but mostly all fixable and there's plenty of knowledge out there. Mostly likely to be a 4.0, but look out for the earlier 4.3 as many hail this as the best engine of the range. I didn't consider it a suitable daily which is why i sold it.

Vauxhall Monaro - legendary engines - at your budget you'll get the CV8 with the LS1 engine and bigger boot (later cars had the fuel tank relocated to the boot). 5.7 330bhp as standard but easily tweakable to more. Great chassis which handles itself very well for such a big car. This was top of my list, and this is the car I ended up with:

And I'm very happy with it biggrin

if you do plan on the monaro, at 7k you will have a very limited choice. the fact only a few 100 cv8s were ever made, couple with the fact if you want to be picky on colour/spec dont feel pushed in to buying the first one that comes up that ticks the spec boxes for you.

i was looking at them when i had a budget of 10k a few years ago, this meant buying one at the absolute cheapest price...of the 4 i managed to find in a period of 6months(i wanted a red one with less than 50k), 3 of them were boarderline rough. not looked after that body doesnt age well. door handles flake, engine covers flake, even early rust can appear. anouther thing to consider, stock, the car doesnt roar so you may want/need to buget 1k for a wortec pipe. also most people seem to hate the stock gear change on a cv8, its very slow a vauge and so upgrade to a ripshifter as soon as possible. cv8 brakes are crap too, most upgrade. you can find a gem at 7k but just make sure you look at a few and take your time.smile

Surely it HAS to be an E39 M5.

If you're patient you could pick up a really decent one at that price.
