No, but you will see lots of optioned-up 2WD diesel lookalikes offending the eyes in a new-money estate near you about five minutes after this comes out.

These are nothing close to Mini they are the size of an A3 now and pig ugly.

Really are hateful expensive P.O.S.

Nothing about them is true to the original mini mission statement....more crap churned out of the BMW stables.

Yep, they will be doing that and buying the All4 badges for the sides. So the neighbours think they have more money than sense.

So will they now offer an All4 One or One 4All?

What makes me laugh is there was a guy on here last week saying stripes on his Fiesta ST were probably now a bit OTT given he was a little more mature and yet this car seems aimed squarely at middle-aged people with a high disposable income who like "mid life crisis paint" schemes.

The image driven imbeciles will be queing up for this POS.
Its incredible they sell these things at all regardless of their state of trim, says a lot about prospective purchasers.
Who would actually allow themselves to be ripped for so much money for this old rope?

I'm trying to think how you would explain this to friends, work colleagues, the wife and so on when you pulled up outside and they saw it.

It's repulsive to the extent that even if it drives well I would not be seen in it.

As I said, it may actually be half-decent to drive.

However, as regards its looks and price, I remember some marketing loony on the radio a month or so ago saying something like 'brand has replaced colour in our car buying process nowadays.'

This is evidence for this, sadly. I've no doubt there will be buyers who will buy it purely because it's a Mini despite the fact that it has so many design flaws it actually annoys them.

It's a sign of a world where marketeers have too much power and engineers have too little. People who are essentially middlemen, who the world wouldn't really miss if they all disappeared, have become so self-important that they've started dictating how people behave.

Unfortunately, it seems far too many people have decided to engage in this absurd (and wallet-drainingly expensive) game of Simon Says, mistaking it for fashion.

They think they're individuals because the advert said they'd be an individual if they bought it.

Why are there so many virulently, almost aggressively proud thick people in this country?

also, people working in Marketing should do us all a favour and hang themselves, suck on a tailpipe and rid the world of their evil.

I wish that the MINI models were as woefully terrible to drive as their ugly Duplo/Tonka styling is as offensive to the eyes .... then my distain for their products would be complete.

Truth is that I've never driven one of them that wasn't in some way a bit of a giggle to chuck around, and this one will likely be no exception.

That’s £2360 more than a five-door Golf GTI. Bold, huh? Well, hang on, reckons MINI. This, see, is not only a 218hp hatch (with the 1.6-litre turbo four-pot beating the Golf GTI by 8hp), but it’s also a four-wheel drive one – and, in coming with ALL4 as standard, it becomes the brand’s first four-wheel drive JCW variant.

Want four-wheel drive in a hot Golf? Then you need to spend more than £32k on a 270hp Golf R. Which means you could argue the MINI slots directly into the gap between them.
Or, if 4WD performance is your aim, you could save another grand over the MINI and buy a Subaru STI.

Whoa there, pickle! Not sure where your vitriol is coming from here? It's not as if those evil marketeers are putting Hypno-Syrup(tm) in the water or anything. Some analysts asked a few people some questions about what car they'd want to buy (or, more likely, listened to feedback from people who visited MINI dealerships but didn't buy at the time), and figured that it would make financial sense to make it (BMW Group are continually smashing sales records, so they must be getting something right).

And I don't really know why this is pulling "power" away from engineers? Sure, this MINI is fugly and expensive (to my eyes, and I assume yours too), but I can't see how it isn't mechanically sound. It will, almost certainly, prove to be a well built, efficient car that's fun to drive.

Don't like the looks? There's no shortage of choice in the market place right now. Thanks, in no small part, to companies actually paying attention to what the market wants.

...and yes, I work in Marketing. And I am hastily writing a patent for Hypno-syrup!

As a marketer (but not in the motor industry) I take offence at these comments wink

The trouble is, marketers are required to find out what customers will buy and what they won't in order to help the organisation make money. The sad fact is exactly as Twincam says, people buy these things, the adverts are designed to appeal to the people that will buy them. Who is wrong, the people paid to find out what people want and offer it to them in a way that appeals to them and makes money for their employer or those that think they will have a better life for driving a bloated, over-priced product with the most inappropriate brand name possible just because they are slaves to "fashion".
