I'm puzzled.

Truly, it is a hideous car, as most of us seem to concur. However, the driver is smiling. Then I thought it must be because he can't actually see the outside of the car.

And then I saw the pics of the interior, which is very nearly as bad, yet he's still smiling.

As I say, I'm puzzled.

Golf Challenger?

I didn't think the golf was the best hatch on sale by any single grade (unless 'softness of plastic' or 'hydraulic action door handles' is the key area against which all 'hot' hatches are judged).

Dont bother reaching for the stars reach for something a bit more mediocre instead.

He hasn't used the *stupid* handbrake yet - that'll be sure to wipe the smile off his face even if the looks didn't!

I'm sure it drives superbly but it really looks like a pile of st - I had a go in a friends cooper s countryman a few weeks ago and was staggered by its small boot and lack of practicality - dash layout was ste too - she loves the car though - guess I'm just not down with the kids
A guy at work has a normal Bini that he bought new last year. The only thing he talks about is the fact how cool it is that it can display his ipod/iphone album art on the stereo. Ask him about how the car drives, etc and you're met with a blank expression. Sort of says it all about the target market for these cars smile

There is no denying that the Countryman edition of the BIGI is quite frankly....Huge! (Oh and bleedin' ugly)

Now it's bleedin expensive, garish, ugly and huge...

Oddly the only version of the BIGI (It's correct name) that I'd like, they don't make. A Pick-up. I thought the artistic impressions of that one weren't bad.

One more of those absurd 'all round' cars.
Cars of which people expect they can do anything with it... with 1,6 litre.
Well, just like e.g. a Cayenne, it is not honest.
A Defender is an honest car.
Or a Phantom.
Or an Elise.
Or an Aygo.
Or a Chimaera.
Or an F1 car.
Even an excavator is honest.
This one isn't.
So apart from being extremely hideous, it won't be able to do anything really good.
It claims to be able to do it all, and I'm pretty sure it will be no good at anything than numbers on paper.

I thought BMW had drained all of Mini's dignity, but it seems I was wrong.
They actually managed to make things worse.
So what's next?...a Paddy Hopkirk edition?

In response to my own comment about this car being like Victoria Beckham, ste and pointless;
I could actually make a case for comparing the Bini to different Spice Lesbos;
Cooper S (yes, had one..) - Sporty Spice. In reality not sporty at all and makes you question your sexuality
Mini 2seater thing - Scarey Spice. Just horribly frightening to be near
Any browny-ginger Clubman. Yup, Ginger Spice - orrible colouring and talentless.
Convertible - Baby Spice. Well it does look like a pram, doesn't it?
Any 'limited edition' mini. Posh Spice. A triumph of style over substance but with no style......

Late to the party but....

How was it possible to make one of the ugliest, least desireable vehicles (Mini 4x4 Countryman) even worse ?

But they have succeded fantastically !

Heck that is hideous, it reminds of a very sexist quote (please excuse me ladies) "No man goes to bed with an ugly woman......but often wakes in the morning next to one"

Just think if you've laid out your hard earned on one of those - or stupidy financed it ! What is the return/ residual worth going to be ? Aaaahhghhh

I presume all BMW Mini dealers supply the obligatory dark shades, white stick & harnessed labrador to all who enter their showrooms ??

While I agree it's a silly car, I wonder why there is so much hate/anger expressed here. Maybe frustration or jealousy towards people with more disposable income (and clearly less common sense). Not really necessary.

Why is PH's default accusation that of jealousy?

It isn't. It's about design, marketing and production capacity. Far better, more intelligently-designed cars could be put into production. They could be sold to a much wider range of people who would find their attributes useful.

Unfortunately, things like a properly 'mini' Mini, a Mini pick-up truck and a roadgoing WRC rep are being sidelined to build things like this. 'It'll sell' is the reasoning, of course, but I'm not convinced. I really don't think modern marketing is even slightly egalitarian in the way that its acolytes make out, simply because none of these hideous 'bestsellers' could possibly have come out of consultation with the public. Look at the platform-engineering involved and it's clear that it's a mixture of marketeers and product development engineers looking at what they could and couldn't do, then presenting an uncritical, buttered-up-by-special-offers customer base and saying 'do you like this?'

Of course they're going to say yes! For some reason no-one seems willing to tell the cult-alike brands (we're of course talking of Apple, Audi, Mini, Samsung, Amazon, Google, LoveFilm and all the others for whom merely selling products is not enough - full-on induction to an unquestioning religion-like regime is required) anything negative. I'm often approached by sales types working for these Hydras in the street and rather than taking criticism or countenancing the thought that someone might not actually want to join the cult, I'm treated like the shambling, fist-shaking village weirdo of yore.

It's got to stop or we'll end up here:

I had no idea it was the default accusation. I don't really know what you mean but it'd be the most obvious reason for the amount of hatred expressed here.

My MINI hatch is a proper mini Mini btw, it's quite a lot shorter and lighter than a small car like a Fiesta or a Clio. I wouldn't want it to be any smaller tbh. It looks stupid but I couldn't find a better 3 year old small hatch for £9,000 with 30k miles and 175hp. For me it's all about the driving experience (the MCS is surprisingly neutral and tractable) regardless of image/looks but I appreciate that things are different for other Phers for whom the marketing/image etc is more important than the way a car drives, not that they have ever driven a MINI, as they wouldn't be seen dead in one.

Errr what?

I have disposable income...I own all the cars and bikes (both Pugs and a 2010 A6 Sline TDI I got from new along with my R1200GS BWM Bike) so that in my eyes makes your statement complete rubbish....the BMW Mini is a turd always has been always will be....look at them when they first launched....brake failure putting people into the armco....engines and gear boxes made of chocolate, need I go on....no!

There is hatred for the BMW Mini (or 0.5 series as I like to call it) because its crap...fashion lead crap.
