No, but it does equal fault claim free driver, which is a pretty good start.
Yeah and thats great until someone hits your parked car and doesn't leave a note, must mean you're a worse driver than those who are oblivious to what's happening around them and cause other people to take avoiding action due to their piss poor manoeuvres.
A percentage of people who get hit whilst parked have parked badly, or haven't given any thought to where they've parked. Is the space in the car park where they've parked as well lit as some of the other empty spaces?

Ok, how about this.

I'm, well admittedly and ex, Institute of Advanced Motorists observer, if you are somewhere near Berkshire, I'll take you out for a morning or afternoon and see if I can help you out.

Reg Local was mentioned somewhere back on Pg.3. you can pick up his excellent books on Amazon for very little money relative to the advice provided. He's got a YouTube channel as well. Go have a look. It sounds like you're just a new driver, having new driver worries.

I'd have thought that generally, concentrating on your observation (look ahead and learn to read the road) and thinking a little less about the actual speed would be helpful. As previous poster's have replied, there's no need to get anxious to the point of avoiding driving, just be aware of red ringed limits and stay within them!

Just stick religiously to the speed limit and you shouldn't have any trouble. Also check over your car, and keep particular attention to tyre tread depth.

You sound like you’d be an incredibly nervous and hesitant driving, especially if you refuse to drive somewhere due to having speed cameras on the route. I suggest a strong dose of man up and get on with it or surrender your license.

I’m 27, will have been on the road 11years in January. Covering on average 20k a year (the past two years have been more like 40k) and I’ve been caught once, by a mobile camera. I wouldn’t say I’m a overly fast driver, but do like to make progress where safe and possible..unless you are massively unobservant you’ll be fine. Get on with it chap, before your mrs makes you carry her handbag.
I am not hesitant atall when driving, in all honesty I have been told I am an excellent driver by many people. I would out drive you any day of the week to be fair.
Arrogant too judging by the last sentence.

It probably is fine. Just people like yourselves have been brainwashed to think it isn’t fine to fit it in with the “speed kills” agenda so they can bang a mobile camera there and make some money.
I’ve been nabbed by a mobile camera. 34 in a 30.... gripped my st at the time, but I went to the course and did what was required.

I’ve not been brainwashed in the slightest. The 30mph limit in our village is there for a reason. The speed at which some people drive through beggars belief. I would also suggest that a child has a better chance of surviving an impact with a car that is travelling at 30mph, as opposed to twice that?

Simply put, the mobile camera wouldn’t make any money if people stuck to the 30 mph limit when driving through the village.

I agree this is a total wind-up! Either that or this person has OCD/Anxiety issues and maybe needs to address those first before getting out on the road on their own.

Why was it acceptable for you to drive at 34mph through someone else’s village though?

I think if people are driving at double the speed limit through your village, then the speed limit is wrong. Possibly one that’s been gradually reduced due to dumbing down over the years?

I didn’t say it was acceptable.... it wasn’t in a village, but that is beside the point.

You appear to have your own agenda - you have no knowledge of the area in which I live yet claim that the speed limit is wrong. You are welcome to see for yourself, but I suspect you would be selfishly driving too fast too notice.

Let’s leave it there, shall we.

I guess they aren't mutually exclusive. A passenger might observe a hyper cautious driver who is highly alert to speed limits and is technically a good driver (positioning, observation, etc). Meanwhile inside the driver is anything but calm and relaxed.

As a rule, people don’t drive at double the speed limit unless the posted limit has been set too low. People drive to the conditions.

yikes indeed!

I was wondering if the suggestion was that OP should pass his moped test, and therefore not be able to exceed 29mph! smile

Worst case scenario is, surely, misspelling 'worst case scenario'?

We agree on that.... but there is also a significant minority who treat roads as their own private race track.

I suspect we may well be on the same page in regard to certain points concerning the needless reduction of speed limits (60-50mph) on derestricted roads, camera placings and (in some cases) cynical revenue generation. Having said that, a few idiots getting their collars felt belting through a village (minor B road, infant school etc etc) does not cause me any issues at all.

Hi Guys,

Yes passed my test late on in life, a massive massive huge problem I have is the fear of loosing my license. My girlfriend who has been driving 10+ is pretty much sick of me, going on about speed cameras. The other day I refused to drive somewhere due to there being too many speed cameras and this sent her on a wild rant. I actually plucked up the courage yesterday to drive down a road where theres a big yellow speed camera, but going passed it I was damn nervous even though I was doing like 25mph passed it and it was a 30 road.

Now I get that a simple solution to this is to not speed (lol) however there are times when I mistakenley drive 1-2 or even 3mph over by accident then when I realise this I instantly drop down. I then spend my time worrying if for those brief seconds I somehow got caught by a camera and this worries me for ages, even now I am debaiting if I was caught this week (even though I have no recolection of being over the limit). I usually drive under the limit if I'm honest, so I'll do like 28 in a 30 never really spot on 30 as its not hard to go from 30-31 mistakenly so to be safe I just stay at 28.

I was not aware of all these precautiouns prior to driving my own car (maybe because I had the impression if I was speeding in my instructors car it would automatically be is fault), I did not know half the time I would need to watch out for all these cameras, it just never really occured to me until the license was in my hand, and if I'm honest I always thought it was 12 points to lose your license regardless of whether you are a new driver or not, not frigging 6 which can be accumilated from just two speeding tickets.

What I want to know is, whether there is actually any tollerance specifically on mobile speed cameras as I just think it would be so unreasonable to get a NIP for 31/32mph in a 30, if this is the case then it seems very very shady as they must make ridiculous amounts of money from this.
