This is more of an enquiry really as I haven't got the money to buy a car or insure it yet, but will be planning on doing in the next 6 months.

The car in question is a classic VW beetle, 1303 1973. value of £2000, (already agreed price with the girlfriends dad).

Really its not the cost of the car that's hard to fund, but more the insurance cost on top of it.

Are there any classic insurance companies that allow limited mileage policies that would get my insurance to around £1000 a year?

Ill be about 20 y/o licence held for 2 years by the time I get it.

And I have experience driving cars as a named driver.

(Sorry if this doesn't make much sense ive not been awake long!)

I think you'll struggle - most classic policies demand that:
a) you're at least 21 years of age (many stipulate 25 years) and;
b) that the classic has to be a second vehicle, and that you have access to a 'principal' vehicle insured in your name.

Also, be aware that many classic policies neither require nor accrue No Claims Bonus, so even if you can find a suitable policy, it might not help you build up a your NCB.

It probably wont be a classic car policy as such, but we may be able to get the price down somewhere close to the £1000 mark. Give Ash a private message on the Flux thread, theres a form to fill out and he can email you a quote.

The main criteria to fit a classic policy for someone whos under 25, would be for the car to be a 2nd car for you (as in you need to own and insure another car in your name), limited miles to 5000 or less, garaged and have a full licence for over 2 years.

As i say, try Ash and, depending on your postcode and a few other bits, he may be able to sort you out...

Admiral now offer Classic car cover,
You do not need a second car, it doesn't need to be in a garage and you build up NCB on the policy too.
The car has to be over 20 years old and be on the list of car classed as classic by the underwriters, you'll have to ring up and ask for a quote as the policy is a new product so isn't on the internet yet.
You can also get "agreed value" cover.

Don't worry about it being a second car, the company I use didn't even ask me about it. On a beetle it shouldn't be too hard to get it lower than £1000 on a classic policy- the only thing is you might need to join a club for them to insure you as a young driver.

I was with Footman James at 19, but I think they've since changed their criteria (and, technically it was a kit car one).

Have you tried Lancaster? Not sure about under 21s, but they definitely did under 25s on classic policies back in the day.

Good luck! It is getting harder to find specialist insurance for young drivers, but it is still possible, and it's definitely the way forward if you want to insure something interesting for a sensible fee.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Ill try all the places you have suggested, it'll be in the next few months anyway and a lot of places wont offer a quote unless your planning on buying in 30 days.

Fingers crossed ill find something!

Hopefully even regular insurance wont be that much if all else fails...
