Hi Everyone
I bought a Cat N Fiesta in Feb. It did not state Cat N anywhere on the person's log book (private seller). He said that it doesn't show now.
I found this odd so contacted the DVLA and they said the same ... that it no longer needs to be on the V5. I asked if I could request that my new V5 has it put on the "Notes" section. He said there was no need and no option to do this.
I got it insured and was told the same sort of thing by the insurance company (Admiral).
I have come to renew my car insurance this month and it does not give you the option anywhere on comparison sites to declare it was previously Cat N.
I will ring the companies I am interested in tomorrow to tell them about Cat status, but hope it does not affect the price too badly.
I still think it should show on the V5 though.
Also, I did not do the advanced HPI check when I bought it (yes I know now and I will in the future)

Why would the fact it's previous been written off affect the insurance premium? If they don't ask, it's because they don't care.
The fact a car has been written off doesn't really tell you much anyway. There's plenty of cars out there which have had big accidents and not been written off because they were nearly new at the time, and conversely plenty which get written off for cosmetic damage when they're older.
