SPL, and the lack of people asking for advice about speeding
Discussion
My theory for this being the negative responses to those who inquire as to the likely outcome of a NIP or possible prosecution.
However, maybe it's because people are slowing down, and therefore not getting caught.
Or perhaps, we're getting better at driving faster surreptitiously, and again, not getting caught.
For what it's worth, I don't think it's the last one.
Are we all still behaving the same way, getting caught, but choosing not to bring it to the forum because of the negative responses that seem now to be the norm ( my opinion based on observation, other opinions are available and may differ ). If so, it's a sad state of affairs. I wouldn't dream of requesting help on here now, given the general negativity I see attributed to those seeking advice, and I find that deplorable on a forum designed for petrol heads with the now seemingly forgotten strapline " speed matters ".
Just an observation, I'm sure I'll be in the minority of those to which these things are of concern.

I'd say likely a mixture of your first and second points, but your main point being the most relevant to this forum.
There really are some sanctimonious arses on here.
Even when the OP holds their hands up, admits they deserve what's coming to them but would just like some advice, they still persist.
I do wonder about them sometimes.

A mixture of many things; but mainly people have just got used to having some ‘entity’ dipping into their pocket/wallet/bank balance at every given opportunity to help themselves to their hard earned.
Most people have acquiesced to the general apathy of it all and just put it down to part of as part of daily life; providing they don’t get too many points, it’s just an inconvenience the majority of the driving public will incur.

Honestly, what advice is there to be given? If you've received a NIP, that's it. There's plenty of guidance online about whether you'll be offered a course or not. If you haven't received a NIP, then you're in the clear, until you do. Plenty more guidance on how long it might take to come through.
I wonder if people who ask about speeding on here secretly like to brag, complain about 'the system' or like being scolded...

Maybe people have discovered the search function and realised there are approximately 4377 threads on the subject already.
I think someone mentioned, "There really are some sanctimonious arses on here." a couple of posts above .I've noticed, if you dare to mention you got flashed there will be several immediate rsponses along the lines of "the limit is quite clear", "don't speed then", "its not hard to understand". Its becoming kind of pointless asking for advice because you have to grin and bear all the abuse along the way.

Or maybe there's no point asking because the outcome of the nip is inevitable. I got caught this year, I'd crept over my 10%+1 target. What is there to discuss?I also think that with Waze being so accurate with fixed motorway speed cameras (apart from the annoying way it deals with average speed cameras), you really do need to be half asleep these days to be caught by one.
The same for camera vans really. I've always been of the view that in the time between the van stopping and it being fully operational it will already be on Waze, so even if you're the first person passing you're not going to get caught (assuming you're paying attention).
I will happily admit to speeding in pretty much all 60mph and 70mph limits where traffic volumes / conditions allow and my last speed awareness course (about 5 years ago) was for 36 in a 30 less than a mile from my house.
Finally, I would say that most normal people who have been "caught" speeding don't come on here bleating about it. Most people, if they see a flash from a motorway camera in their rear view mirror will worry for a minute or two that it might have been aimed at them, then forget all about it. They're then very unlikely to remember it because it's extremely unlikely that the flash will have been for them, so there won't be anything unpleasant landing on their doorstep.

Exactly this. If you want to whinge about how unfair it all is, or brag about your bad driving then go and find some other sympathetic morons on t

There are some very interesting discussions and useful information on PH.
However being asked the same question over and over again about speeding NIPs isn't one of them.

Waze and Car Play has certainly helped me. I've always ignored speed limits and just drive to the conditions. Before I started using Waze I was continually running around 6-9 points. I've been at zero for past 3 years. The same for camera vans really. Having said that I'll probably now get nicked on the way home tonight.
A lot of the legal 'advice' given here is absolute b
ks. I could count on one hand who I would probably take any notice of and even then I'd still just speak to a professional if I had an issue about anything.
Most of the cops or anyone else who seemed to know what they were talking about gave up posting here ages ago, mainly due to the armchair experts who seem to think they know more, it's a shame tbh.

With the advent of AppleCar play & the likes It’s always on my display for all journeys.
I think also with us, certainly in Scotland, there are much less Traffic police conducting checks, I can’t even remember last time I saw the locals getting a shot of the “hairdryer” & standing in the streets (which I felt was a good idea but inevitably caught the local folks who had complained about commuters speeding through!) ). Back in the day commuting I saw police on speeding, marked or unmarked every week, now it’s prob nearer once a year. Focus has definitely shifted, the ones I see on the roads now are nearly always dealing with a crash or similar.

The so-called "negative responses" are because PH members can see through these "how can I get out of this?" threads, when the OP is bang to rights, were caught speeding (or whatever), but will not accept any responsibility, or pay the fine. They've been caught, end of. But they won't have it.Perhaps its because the Police forces that send out NIPs have undergone several revisions of what they say on the paperwork, so it makes it blindingly obvious what one's duties are in respect of an NIP. And with most (all?) going over to doing it online, including quick access to the relevant photographs and other relevant information, the questions are answered for all but the rarest edge cases.
My suggestion is to do some research on stats, and methods/rules especially about camera vans, as for speed cameras, most these days are obvious, a lot are not working.
Some limits do not make any sense, I have found smart motorways and overheads to the most running now
And I am utterly convinced the recent spate of M25 "50 limit for testing purposes" was a cash grab by our useless government, who also recently announced a £1 increase in the Dartford Crosding that already makes 200 million a year despite being bought and paid for decades ago.
The motorist is very easy to profit from, congestion charge, ulez, it's all about making money without no real benefits for anyone.
