Hi guys
Been offered an RX8 with blown engine really cheap. Do you think it would be possible to drop a bmw 330 or s2000 engine in with a budget of 3-4grand ? Do you think its possible? Not sure of engine sizes and gearbox room?

Not sure how easy (or cheap) this would be but if possible it would be a fantastic combo IMO.

And your wallet in this case.

Is this doing the work yourself or farming it out?

Doing it yourself should be possible but I'm not sure if it is economically viable as the car may be harder to sell on. I imagine you should be able to get an RX8 engine for not a huge amount.

If you are doing it for yourself to keep, I guess you will enjoy improved fuel economy but will the handling be upset? I thought the RX8 engine was very light. What about insurance?

They have a low bonnet due to using the rotary don't they? Physically fitting another engine may be a problem..

My understanding is that the low height of the wankel engine helps in getting the low bonnet line on the RX-8. It might be a squeeze. Mind you, I'm only repeating what I've read elsewhere.

No chance on that budget, just buy a new rx-8 engine if you want it, you'd need loads of custom fabrication to fit a differnt engine in ans it wouldn't be posisble on that sort of budget.

You'd get it rebuilt for that easily.

I compete "against" (i.e. in the same event but he's many classes away from me) a car badged as an RX-5.7. And yes, it is an RX-7 with a 5.7 V8 in it.

Should be about the same price as a ton of scrap metal. Avoid.

What about fitting a Subaru STi engine? Due to being a flat 4, I think it could be awesome.

You can fit LS1 V8.

So you can fit pretty much anything.

Doubt the RX is wide enough
Maybe it will be? Engines are relatively cheap enough, imagine the sound!

I had a mazda RX8, the engine is completely crap and I was always wondering what else you could drop in when it inevitably blows.

I would have a good look round for a 4 pot turbo engine that looks short enough to fit. Renaults Megane R26 engine would be ideally suited to the RX8. Something like that is really what the RX8 should have been made with. The very slight weight penalty will be more than worth it.

Just buy a BBR Turbo MX5 if that's what you want...

I wonder if a Porsche flat 6 would fit?
