Hi guy's.
Not sure if this is the right place but here goes.
I'm after a new car in the next few weeks. I'd love. Focus ST2, but I've heard mixed reviews on them.
A friend at work has an 06 model and say's he does about 150 miles per week and only puts £60 in every two weeks. However, a friend of my cousin has told me to steer clear of one as an everyday car, as he uses about £20 a day on fuel!?
He has a Dreamscience map and a few other mods though, much difference?
I've looked at old posts on the net, but petrol has shot up since.
I do around 200-250 miles a week, 95% of them being urban, mixed driving (eco & fun).
I've test drove one and loved it, but I don't want stupid fuel bill's. I know peopld will say "don't bother looking if your worried about mpg etc.. but I'm only 21 and not on great money.
Just hoping you's could give me a rough idea of how much cash I'd be using a week.
Also, any reviews on Astra and Corsa VXR will be nice too.
Cheers

Sorry for the late replies, I'm at work on my phone!
Cheers for the replies![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Insurance...2yr NCB with female cousin (Physio so low insurance
)
Girlfriend and a good postcode so not too bad.
Astra VXR is £1480 Fully comp.
I was getting 180 miles out of 40 quid in my VTR with the daft gearbox.
Was the Astra an uncomfortable day to day car?
Sorry about all the questions but no one will give me a test drive due to my age.
The Focus I'd love is the MK2 yep, looking a tad bit thirsty atm tho![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)

I just love them mate, I dint need the space, just think they're smart.
I like Astra VXR's too. Any idea's on them? MPG, everyday car etcm.?
It just amazes me how many so called motoring enthusiasts fall head over heels for an old persons/family car.I like Astra VXR's too. Any idea's on them? MPG, everyday car etcm.?
Something as a base design is 100% a compromise for performance. Everything about the Focus is designed for packaging, from the fwd layout to the blobby styling.
I like them, I do. But they ain't pretty, they ain't striking to look at, they ain't subtle and sleek.
The ST looks good for a Focus and ok for a hatch, but in the grand scheme of the motoring world it's a bit of a potato - bland and indistinct (although the ASBO orange is a bloody good colour imo

If you want fast - there are better ways.

Any idea's on the VXR mate? I know they're more expensive (used), are they worth it?

Have a look at a Mazda 3 MPS - quite a bit more power and torque than the ST and quite a bit less thirst. Chassis isn't quite as good, but I believe they are easier to insure.
I refuse to pay the £430 tax a year though.Corsa or Astra, rubbish cars? Pretty basic inside the Astra.
I'm going to have a look into some of the cars listed (realistic ones lol).
I love motors, have done as long as I remember. Thought about what you's have said and kind of put off finance.
I've just been dropped off home in a Type R EP3, felt pretty decent for not having much torque!
Looked at the MPS as said before. The new one's are smart, older shape I think are boring IMO. New shape is way over my budget.
A Scooby is 2500-3k insurance, not sure why it's a massive difference but I don't fancy that lol.
Cheers again.

Appreciate the effort by you's, some good idea's now, I'd never have thought of any!
Isn't it renknown that Alfa's drop to pieces?
As for the Integra, It's 2700 insurance somehow ? A Civic Type R is only 1500!
I'd prefer something more modern than an MR2, not saying they're ugly though.
Also, I don't need much space, but 4 or 5 seats prefered for footie & work.
I looked at Z4's and 350Z's but too little space.
Quite fancy a hatchback just to get started as my first "quick" car.

The Mk1 RS is a seriously good call. Quicker and more hardcore than the ST. Looks better too, and will hold its value if you leave it unmolested.
I'd be looking for one of those!
I do think they're a quality motor, but I'm after something which is comfy for daily driving, wouldn't mind modern interior and performance when play time.I'd be looking for one of those!
The RS is supposidley very rigid and more of a track car.
I just looked at mileage I do roughly, it's about 200 per week. Not sure what that works out as in an ST.
I could get a nice ST2 for about 7-8k, xenons, 6CD changer as standard etc..
An Astra, if I was lucky enough to get one with Xenons and other extras as mentiones above, I'd be looking at 9-10k at a garage.
Only 21 once so I want to treat myself, but in the other hand, I don't fancy being skint when the fuel bill comes in everyweek.
I do a stop start 6 mile round trip to work mon-fri.
Girlfriends 3 nights a week which is a 3.5 mile round trip.
And I'm no stranger to going for a cruise on the weekends after footie!

3 x 3.5 = 10.5 miles
= 52.5 miles.
Where the hell are you getting the other 150 from?
I've been offered a 2006 orange ST 46000miles for 8k at a garage close to me.
5% APR over 2year. Got my head rattled now. Only got a week left to decide really.
I've recently done trackday's mate.
Done a Ferrari 360 and a Skyline GT-R. Skyline was amazing but it just makes me deoressed knowing I'll never be lucky enough to own something like that lol.
£1800 is cheap, considering I was paying £2200 on a 1.4 Focus.
My insurance isn't too bad as it's part of a birthday present.

Couldn't care less if It could or could not fit a sub in. Just cause I'm young, doesn't mean I want to show off, blasting music and meeting up at McDonald's car park.
I appreciate advise on petrol etc.. but not being made to be a "chav" cause I want a nice sporty car when I'm young. If I wanted a chav car I would have buy now.
Trying to make the right decision because I want comfort and performance.
Handling doesn't concern me mucb, it'll never see a track and roads around mine aren't exactly roads which need amazing hanling.

Go buy an ST. If you have a serious lust for the Focus then I'm sorry but a 3 series from the 90s isn't going to scratch that itch.
Can you afford it? Is your job secure? Are you going to continuously fret about filling it up? Are you going to put a tenner in each week and drive like Miss Daisy?
Fast Fords seem to hold their value quite well, if you realize a year down the line you want a change then get rid and get an old mans Volvo, thus keeping PH happy and saving £xxxx a month and the world wont explode.
Think I might just go for it. Only live once I suppose, learn by your mistakes, that's if I realise I made a mistake. Can you afford it? Is your job secure? Are you going to continuously fret about filling it up? Are you going to put a tenner in each week and drive like Miss Daisy?

Doea anyone know of any common faults I should be made aware if?
The dealer said he'll give me a month warranty and labour warranty, which can be extended, probably for a fortune!
I might be lucky to cheek some extra off him.
