Number Plate Requirements...

I'm coming to this from a bike angle, but applying it to cars.

My understanding is that if a number plate fits all the criteria of a legal plate, but DOESN'T have the manufacturers name and post code, it doesn't count as a plate and you could be prosecuted for not displaying a number plate?

Does that mean if you put ten of these "illegal" plates, all with different numbers on, on your car, plus one plate that is completely legal showing the cars actual plate, are you breaking the law?

I know what I think, but internet opinions would be appreciated
