I have just purchased a car and after trying endless quotes to insure it I end up opting for one company. I need this car as my van has just broken down, so I click the buy it now button and purchase the policy in full. I then get an email telling me the insurance will not be valid until someone from them contacts me, WTF. I ring the CS number but offices are now closed. Wont be open till after Christmas most probably.

So I have had to spend another £50 on day insure. Is every industry in the UK populated by shysters nowadays. No matter what you try to do nowadays it seems to be loads more hassle than it ever was.

Well I spoke to them this morning, unsurprisingly I was insured from the start, however I still had no documents so he promised to email me the certificate over right away so I can tax it. Needless to say it has not arrived, so thanks a lot Thames City insurance.

Am I right in saying that I cant tax it before 30/12/2010 anyway if I want it to start on 01/01/2011. Maybe the docs will be in the post tomorrow LOL.

This is the email they sent me on 24/12/2010 about 2PM

A belated update to this, when I took out this policy I had just sold my house in an 'M' postcode and moved in with my friend in a 'WA' postcode, after about 5 weeks I managed to buy my new house back in the same 'M' post code, so being honest I wrote to tell them and I promptly get a phone call off them "sorry but KGM wont cover the Manchester area, you have 7 days to find alternative cover. I paid £330 up front for this and they will only pay back £175 after 55 days on cover, and I still have not received even this.

Anyway put I put it down to experience not to use joke companies anymore and pay that bit extra.

But hang on it gets worse, how can that be? read on...

I took alternative cover with a company, not too sure what they are called, near the end of Feb, received the docs and sent of my NCB, now all the company says is the NCB has to be within two years, which it is, I have not had a car for the last 12 months and have just tootled about in my works wan so my car NCB ran out in Dec 09.

I then get a letter back asking why there is a gap and to prove it is still valid, so I send off a covering letter, copy of the DVLA sale/change of keeper, copy of purchase invoice for new car and even a copy of my van NCB just for good measure. I even sent it in their own envelope.

Anyway fast forward to this Saturday and I get a letter of them telling me the policy has now been canceled from 14/3, so no insurance for the last week, luckily I was in Beni. I also spunked £78 payment on this insurance as well.

So I have now taken out a third insurance in as many months at a cost of £600+, by this rate I will be down the bottom of the confused.com list by Christmas where the priced are in the region of £8000+.

So in answer to a thread I saw a while back, no insurance companies are not as bad as banks, personally I think they are way, way more evil conning s.
