Thanks for the explanation . I guess I realised it was a bit like that, and in terms of AM, I get the same treatment from them as you do from Ferrari. I am keen to join the red gang but just too old in the tooth to play waiting games. I lose interest. So for me, its a nearly new F12, not the end of the world, but it will be difficult for me to show great loyalty or for the brand to lock me in as its just a second hand car. I will always feel a little like an outsider as the brand has not welcomed me with open arms. I called up 20 minutes after the news release of the 812 to the dealer who sold me the new AM VV. He put me onto his colleague in Ferrari who practically laughed at me wanting an order. I was less than impressed for obvious reasons. Anyway , I totally agree they make great cars and I will see how ownership feels vs the Aston. One thing you can say for the AM is that EVERYONE loves them and you for driving one. Even Cab drivers. I hear its not quite the same in a Fezza!

There is indeed a points system. I've just done an Atilier in Italy for a new 488. It's my first Ferrari and the service has been very good to be honest.

I joked with my dealer about coming back for the limited edition version of the 488 once it's released and he laughed then explained the points system.

So everything get you points, he said things like taking Ferrari finance helps a lot (an obvious ploy) , various training days you can pay for in Italy also help. Obviously past car purchases too.

If they bring out something special you're only going to get one if you're very famous or have a fantastic collection of Ferraris.

I am happy with a new 488, I will have waited 12 months for it when it arrives.

Makes sense. I've stuck with Ferrari because I was smitten with it as a 6 year old when a relative bought me a 250 LM for my birthday (a dinky toy!)

I have a mate who buys all types of larger toys (Porsche, Maccas etc) and his view is why restrict yourself when there's so much wonderful choice; no wrong or no right.

As for social hassle driving Ferrari, I think it's more to do with some of the numpties driving Ferrari rather than the brand itself. I've never had an issue, quite the opposite, whether I'm stuck in traffic in my F50 or tdf. However a funny thing happened not long ago. My daily driver is a nice ordinary diesel SUV. I pulled up at traffic lights alongside a red 430 Spider. The Ferrari had its top down, the owner was heavily blipping his throttle making a racket and not much good for his car either. I must have rolled my eyes because the owner looked up at me and shouted ''pi** off, just because you'll never be able to own one''. Hilarious.

It's a shame for genuine enthusiasts but it's a fact that Ferrari are unique in that they can sell everything they make so the balance of power lies with the seller as opposed to every other car manufacturer.

There are plenty of people who will just buy one of whatever Ferrari make.

My 812 deposit was in over a year before the car was announced.

It's the first time I've pushed it and it goes feel odd

Well unfortunately despite having my deposit in for a number of months (since launch) I’ve been told this evening I won’t be getting allocation on an 812. I’m pretty gutted as I thought I’ve ticked a few boxes over the years. I’ve bought two Ferraris so far, an F430 bought from an official dealer through Ferrari finance which I sold back through the same official dealer when I bought a 458 Speciale. Again I bought it using Ferrari finance and have had it now for almost three years despite being asked to sell it many times by the same dealer. Even when prices were as high as £375k I refused to sell it as I love it and will keep it for life. I spec up my cars really nicely too with good taste and lots of carbon, obviously. Spent £45k on the last options list and the 812 was hitting £70k! I’m also up for the new 488 Speciale or GTO whatever it will be called as business is going well. I’d buy the next two cars with Ferrari finance too and have no intention to sell them either. I’d like to start a collection. I’d classify myself as a good potential repeat purchaser however how can I become one if you don’t get allocation? Frustrated and very heartbroken! Fingers crossed for the 488 GTO I guess....

DMS I am sorry . could you hint at the dealer where you had your deposit for the 812. I am in a similar position and fear I might get a similar call. I had heard that deposits out stripped likely UK allocation.

I do find it extraordinary that, for a car that is a standard production model and not a limited edition, the entire UK allocation to the end of production is apparently spoken for. Yet at the same time, rather than increasing production a little for a model that is in such demand, Marchionne wants to build a truck and stick a Prancing Horse on it.

Probably telling you something you already know but if you register for and log into the MyFerrari section of the main Ferrari website it will tell you if your dealer has ordered the 812 for you and when the order was placed.

I’m not sure I want to disclose the dealer but let’s say they’re not in or around London but in the east....

He mentioned they have to let approx 5 customers down and I was one of them. I told him I’d be happy to wait a few years even but made no difference. I could be waiting and waiting only to be let down again.

I’m now considering a Performante if I’m let down on the 488. I just really fancied the 812 for a GT car as have to visit my mates in London a fair bit and my bro now lives in Pau, France (in this weeks Grand Tour) and the Speciale isn’t great got long journeys unless you like headaches! However I do have an RS3 saloon arriving for my DD in March so I do have something to look forward to. Even that’s been a 6 month wait!

There’s no way I’m selling it. It’s a keeper.

I do wonder though. You get points from Ferrari for not selling. However do the same points then get knocked off by the dealer if you don’t sell as they need some stock to sell themselves so they favor those instead. Maybe those who turnover their cars are the ones who really score the points rather than the collectors or repeat buyers. Who knows... This whole scenario has made me even more attached and honoured to have the Speciale though.

I think that only shows you if you have a 2018 build slot?

Not sure.
First entry shows you the month dealer ordered car for you.Does not necessarily move very quickly after that !
Mine has been on there for nearly 5 months but I am not expecting delivery until 2019.Maybe my build slot is 2018 but delivery 2019 or better still I get it sooner than expected.
Generally I understand the first few 812's for UK customers should start arriving July/August 2018 and that UK production will really pick up after the August break at the factory.

First UK customer car has already been delivered.

Sorry? Demonstrators? Having read this thread what exactly would the demonstrators be for - other than to be a big tease?

Or are they on offer to put people off who have already ordered them?

“Here you go. Try this. You love it? No you can’t actually buy one - they are only for our special customers. “

Puts me right off the brand.

I agree.
As I've said on this and other forums the concept of an 812 demonstrator is a bit odd given that production run is sold out in UK.
I assume they will find their way to UK customers.

I wasn’t aware of future orders being on the Client section of the Ferrari website.

Thanks for the tip

Yes I think the concept on a demonstrator is very odd especially that 1. You can’t buy the vehicle unless you’ve been chosen and 2. Dealers can’t demonstrate the vehicle to potential or even real customers until they’ve been road registered dictated by Ferrari. The cars just sit there looking pretty showing off perfection to the bloggers, vloggers, and would be customers. In fact from what I hear the dealers don’t get a great choice of spec either. It’s all theatre without the encore.
