How about wiring it up to some kind of stun gun thing, so that if anyone tries it, they get electrocuted?

I think its good fun and entertaining, I got shot myself, and I learnt by putting the windows up. Of course, people can take it too far, as noted on here, esp if its not just water, but I would say most of the time, everyone is in a jolly mood. After it first happens to you, I think you keep your eyes open!

I do feel sorry for people in convertibles if their stuff gets damaged, theres not much you can do but keep your expensive stuff out of range!

its water FFS. The same as if you pass through a light shower when the roof is off. Fair enough anyone that puts something other than water deserves a kicking but water pistols are part of the LM thing as far as I am concerned. The fireworks can be damaging, as a fella who camped with us found out when one burnt through the roof on his elise, but Le Mans wouldnt be right without those either.

one of our (rather hammered) lads on houx annexe r'bout decided it would be a great idea to spray the gendarme in the meatwagon at point blank range with his super soaker. However he wont be doing that again in a rush - the gendarme ttted him in the face out the window of the van (good reach) and then drove over his dropped super soaker!!

I got drenched twice by a group of the old school PHers and all I did was laugh!

No harm was done and in that heat it was almost welcome!

Asides from the damage done to my own car there was another incident which got under my skin over the weekend as well, once again the Super Soakers were up their tricks

Once again on the way out we had been stuck for over an hour in the traffic and with the temperatures as ‘hot as a snakes arse in a wagon rut’ a group of British teens opened fire at the 993 as I wouldn’t do a burn out for them. Frankly I was keener to keep my clutch and not block the entire road when it went up in smoke, this was pretty academic as the car was so hot it was a bit of blessing and passed it off with half a grin.

At the same time on the opposite side of the road an absolutely immaculate E type purred past The same lads literally jumped on the bloke and emptied the things across the dash of the car as he wouldn’t perform a burn out form them either.

Clearly distressed he made the fatal error of getting out and remonstrated with the group and being some bit older than the group of lads it all looked a bit ugly and generally distasteful and was met with much baying from the crowd. It’s not as if it was some euro box rep mobile, it was a bloody lovely E Type

They set about shooting him in the face and generally humiliating him in front of a large group. This to me is pretty bloody pathetic and demonstrates a consummate lack of respect for the car and a bloke keen to keep his car the way he likes it

Had they appreciated what it was then clearly he wasn’t likely to nail the clutch and appreciate that Smiths instruments do not mix well with water and best kept anhydrous

Maybe a bit of rant but I really felt a bit sorry for the bloke as he was on his own and smaked to me of a bit of bully boy antics.

I cant really comment as this year was my first Le Mans but for me the best part was the drive down with so many different and varied cars.

I have heard a few different horror stories though since getting back regarding supersoakers and suchlike but the worst was some tw@t in a SL55AMG doing donouhts on a gravel path and knackering about 4 cars paint and windscreens

If things like this keep happening the people with decent cars will just stop going which would be a huge shame as the 'spotted' topics seem to be the most popular.

Have a laugh by all means but dont take the pi$$ (for any Danes reading)

I saw a bunch of lads stopping cars and demanding 'doughnuts'. Fair enough but spraying cars who wouldn't is pretty off - especially as they clearly didn;t have a clue because a good 25% of cars they were stopping were 4wd!

I've had that before:

"DO A BURNOUT"

"Sorry, it's four wheel drive and there are 6 people on board, it's not going to happen even if I wanted it to"

"ERRM, OK"

All fairly good natured, its when it all goes a bit far that I tend to vote with my feet and look elswhere for my jollies. Think Arnage last year etc...

I got stopped for burnouts plenty of times, so simply sped up, put the lights on and beeped the horn repeatedly! Just get out of there fast and avoid the morons!

Got shot by Mel + Flasher etc with what I can only describe as double barrelled sawn off waterpistols - practically knocked me over!!! I was on foot and not driving though and with the temperature being what it was it was a blessed relief really!!!

Got squirted last year by randoms with the masser windows down but just water so mopped up easy, now I now to keep the windows up I don't get done!

Dazren, I don’t know if you know my old mucker over on the Porsche forum '993 RSR' but when it comes to laying my hands on some bricks I’m sure he would testify, a 100,000 by tomorrow could be done

Rob - Not met JC yet, but have seen him post and saw his 993GT2 at Silverstone a while ago.

Ben - No planned trips this year although I will be in the area on the second saturday of september at the end of the Megahoon trip (Not in the porsche though).

Do What My Mate did, They soaked the inside of his car, buggered up electronics and switch gear.

So he watched where they went to after, found there cars and then in the middle of the night cut the valves off of all there wheels and leaving them a nice note about respecting other peoples stuff.

He double checked it was there cars first.

The problem I have with the people on the ends of the soakers is their aim and appropriate use of the trigger finger…....

…..they flag you down and urge you to do a burn out, which I am usually happy to try and oblige, even though the clutch is smoking nicely already.

You sit on the rev limiter for 10 seconds or so (trying to build up the hype), and then just as you release the clutch they let fly straight in your face!

Not very sensible considering you then have to try and handle a flying car up a crowded road with eyes flooded.

Putting the windows up on a roofless car is not really the answer.

Use them sensibly please.

I have had a major chance of heart towards these s after discovering that the state of my dashboard with a large area of plastic trim worn down may be due to someone firing something other than agua minerale from a super soaker.
If that is the case then I wish I had realised earlier - the little cvnt would wish he hadn't bothered

Moving off topic ish but still on the respect for other peoples stuff tangent. When we walked through the car park by the paddock on saturday there was a brand new DB9 complete with an Aston number plate so my guess it was one of Aston's senior management but into the dust was simply written "cvnt" followed by another adding "x2". Just why? my guess is the bloke who drove that car was partly responsibly for bringing the whole Aston Martin race program to LM so just what makes him a cvnt?

At least when JK's Enzo got written on at Goodwood it was done with more humour than malice, the Aston was just wrong.

And at a motorsport even as well. It stuns me that there are such morons out there.

Good natured water pistolling is okay. Along with respect for other people's property.

Trouble is, with all big events, you will get the lowest common denominators who are not there for the motorsport. They just think it's a good laugh to go and get absolutely shitfaced and ruin other people's property. You are unlikely to confront them because there's more of them/are bigger than you/can run faster than you.

You can put it down to general moral decline.
