Apologies, but i'm struggling to see your point, perhaps i'm missing something.

The car will be on a 4 year PCP deal, with 4 years of manufacturer warranty left on the battery and drive unit.

After 4 years, with PCP, you have the option to pay a balloon payment and keep the car or give the car back. I would give it back to avoid any out of warranty repairs. It would be in warranty for the entire duration of my "ownership", after which time it goes back and I am not liable for any repairs.
