Hi all,

I'm looking for a used estate car. Currently I have a Ford Focus hatchback (2007). It's starting to get quite rusty and I've conceded it's probably reaching the end of it's life.

Id like a bit more space as I go climbing/ hiking/ cycling etc so it would be useful to have a bigger boot for trips away.

So far I've considered:

Kia Proceed
Kia ceed sports wagon
Ford focus estate
Skoda Octavia
Toyota Corolla

The first three seem to be reasonably within my price range but cars like the Octavia and Corolla seem to hold their value very well.

Can anyone recommend anything else around £18k, up to 3 years old and ideally less that 30k miles.

I should also say I really like the way my focus drives. I'll be quite sad to see it go. If there's anything else which is as nice to drive that's a bonus!

I was set on the Kia Proceed but trying to negotiate my way through Kia dealers and their claims on warranties has left me a bit exhausted. There are also very few in my price range around me.

Thanks in advance

Stretch to the Corrolla, if not go with the Focus, if you will miss how the Focus drives then don't consider the Skoda, they really are boring to drive.

There's a gravel bike called the Levarg.
Is that car a backwards grovel?

I wouldn’t be too constrained by your 3yr/30k mile criteria - you might dismiss a nice/good value motor.

I’d have a look at something up to 4 years old and enter the world of Audi, BMW and Mercedes. You won’t regret it.

Can you post a couple of links to sale ads for 4-year old Audi/BMW/Merc estates with under 30K miles, priced at £18K or less?

Would buy one myself but don't think they exist apart from the odd Cat S/N write-offs.

Firstly be prepared to travel or distance buy & have the car delivered.

you can easily get an excellent well specced Skoda Superb for that money.
May not be the most exciting to drive but really well made, spacious and enormous boot - either the hatch or estate.

Whilst you may have to go to 40k miles it’s 3 years old and an Audi, which is desirable as opposed to the terminally uncool stuff with tragic resales that has been suggested by many.

I'm in the same situation, I own a 2008 focus, 140000 miles and runs sweet, tbh. But things are starting to cost money now.

I looked at Peugeot- nope, wet belts.
Maybe a newer Focus-nope, wet belts.
An Astra, maybe, but the petrols have turbo's.

I'm edging towards Hyudai/Kia, one that a year or less old, petrol.

I keep my cars for ages tbh, and I want something that will last, and if it goes wrong won't cost a fortune to fix.

My mate owns a general car repair garage and MOT place, his advice? Keep my focus for as long as I can!

Very nice car, but I look at that and think 'will the autobox last'.

Nice car and if it’s been well maintained, provided this is kept up then they will run for many miles. I do however think my Audi suggestion at nearly 5 years younger would be preferable.

That is quite possibly the most boring and uncool way to spend £18k.

I had the original model Audi A4 back in the day. It was solid but dull. My wife had a Mk3 that was similar. My son had a few years ago a 2016 190 TDI S Line that was superb. I remember when this model was launched in 2015, the press raved about it. The press were right.

Thanks. I have looked at these. They look pretty attractive apart from the terrible fuel economy! Maybe I'll test drive one and see.
