I've not read the whole thread, but to argue against the Model S using arguments surrounding its strongest angle (0-100mph & 1/4 mile times) would be strange.

There are plenty of areas the M5 Competition is the stronger car (build quality*, panel gaps, comfort features, high end speed performance), but anywhere from 0-130mph the M5 will be the loser. As for 1/4 mile times the Model S is nearly a second quicker (10.3 vs 11.1).

  • my M5C suffered two driveshaft failures, one of which nearly ended up with my young son and I going into a motorway barrier

To be fair I've had multiple new/almost new BMW's that have had major issues both mechanical and electrical. They were better screwed together than Tesla's though, I'll give them that.

There recent V8/V10's also have a very poor record for reliability.
