They have $5bn in cash lying around.
They have serverly limited capex as well. it is all very short sighted, only real benefit is the share price.
There car margins are decreasing and they need a volume vehicle with high margins, that can sell in volume to stop the company burning up all its reserves.
If Teslas share pric falls below a set value he is in trouble.
Hence Cybertrucks to keep the faith high whilst they attempt to make a profit via 3 and Y via new china factory.
"Hey, VAG are investing €9bn in evs, Taycan is pretty near your best efforts, VW ID is on way ......"
"Look, Cybertrucks, we are a special company"

Crazy love?
200k pre-orders isn't it? You know they sell 20 million vehicles each year in the US alone, and only 200k people worldwide have put a impulsive tiny $100 refundable deposit down??
What other vehicles have had that many preorders then?200k pre-orders isn't it? You know they sell 20 million vehicles each year in the US alone, and only 200k people worldwide have put a impulsive tiny $100 refundable deposit down??
Also don't forget to tell us about Tesla's previous abandoned vehicles they didn't manufacture.

I wonder how the model Y deposit value amount will go from here
A lot of people, who don't actually need this truck, but have pre-ordered it because of it's latter day surfer cool vibe, would probably be better off with the hum drum model Y.
That model Y that was sexy until this month, now just something your mum would buy to go to Aldi ......
PS I seem to be able to order a cybertruck for 2021 on the UK website but not the model Y? Is this just a Tesla glitch?

There was never a pre-order for the model Y, just the normal configuration / order process. Which isnt open in UK (or europe?) yet
I know people who have switched from the Y to the CT, but many wont because its huge and not what they are after.
Rumour is the Y starts early 2020 now

I checked the length of it and it is between the LWB rolls royce Phantom and the Bentley Bigbd, or whatever it is called, so it is rather long.
However having looked at some of the lengths of trucks out there it seems actually quite peitite !
Holy Moly, Americans have done this way due to the excessive amount of space they have for parking lots.

Its grand cab f150 size, typical every day USA truck. I checked the length of it and it is between the LWB rolls royce Phantom and the Bentley Bigbd, or whatever it is called, so it is rather long.

On the upper end of the light duty trucks, not the heavy duty ones.
I don't think anywhere else goes in for trucks that big in general its all hilux /rangers

The model Y getting to market earlier than anticipated is good news. I'm going to guess April for full flow, so splitting old and new time scales.

As cybertruck dwellers will likely be more urban types you would guess.
Funnily enough I was in the car park today and one of the staff was telling a lady she would have to park it on the top floor because it stuck out too far in most of the spaces. She didn't look very happy.
UK recommended parking bay:
2.40 x 4.80 m
Cybertruck:
2.03 x 5.89 m
So as well as sticking out over 1 metre you won't be able to open the doors far enough to get out.

Frankly they need to increase the size of parking bays.UK recommended parking bay:

That will be a ‘modern’ parking space as well. Legacy sized spaces like old ncp car parks are significantly smaller. I’ve had spaces where my Range Rover is over both lines.
Much as I’d like one, it simply isn’t practical for the uk. It’s not a ‘world car’ like the rest of their range.

I wouldn't guess. I know two wanna be owners, one would replace his van and the other his Panamera.
These things are ridiculous to navigate round town, but plenty of people do it in vans and F150/RAM.
Considering the modest pricing for the spec and supposed durability, along with low running costs, I can see it be a contractors dream machine.
