Maybe but one man in one car from lights to flag. It is just down to the driver - the team has nothhing to do with it. The way it should be.

Like racket sports - only the people hitting the ball win the match. Yep I only semi build my car - but if yours and the people you are racings cars hang together it is just you vs them (yes thanks for the people that built the car, but they aren't driving itwink.
The team (or the driver's mate or dad) has everything to do with it - a well prepared and set up car will be quicker and more reliable than one that that you just throw together, and you're not going to win anything if you don't finish the race because you forgot to do a spanner check before the start, or if you're 1/2 a second off the pace as you're not running the optimum damper settings.

The only time when it would be all down to the driver is if everyone has 100% equal equipment, and how many race series can you say that about?

I've done 3 endurance races - 2 x Birkett 6 hour relays, and I also shared a drive in the 24 hour 2CV race this year (a few pics here. OK, it's a different experience to your normal 15 minute sprint race, but just as much fun, harder work and ultimately more rewarding. There's probably more pressure on you to perform as a driver when x number of people have been up all night keeping the car running, and the feeling when you cross the finish line is amazing.

Anyway, going back on topic biggrin I found driving at night (and in the rain) really tough - even with slow 2CVs, it's very hard to judge how far back people are based only on their headlights burning themselves into your retinas, and our car had several taps from other cars - once even under the safety car! hehe

Here we go again!!

Sadly motorsport is not like that Jellison unless you have a big budget for the Clio Cup, Cupra Cup or Carrera Cup. You yourself claim to have the fastest TR4 in the world, hardly fair competition is it?

Before you start posting results and details, I don't care, you are much better off racing where you do. That way none of us have to worry drink

DING!

speaking as somebody that is 100% responcible for *all* the work on my own car, I can tell you that you cannot do a 24H race without *major* help, this is NOT the Birket relay, it's a full on 24H race.

Now, I accept that you can do 2-3-4 hour stuff without team support (as Chris and I did in Britcar back in 2005) but it's HARD WORK, and being brutally honest, your never going to get 100% of both the cars and your own potential.

Absolutely right Scuffers, it takes a huge effort to run a 24 hour race.

We have competed in the last 6 Ring 24hrs and also the first Britcar 24 hours (the infamous RX7 which visited the pits more than all the cars together - you know my old man, Dave at Brunswick))
We have a team of 4 mechanics per car as well as more backroom workers keeping us going, they're not small operations and we work at the smaller end of the budget

Scuffers, that Merc500 is owned by Erwin Derichs - we normally share a garage with his team at the Ring, he and his drivers are super good, very laid back.
