I don't mind the grooved tyres - from the fan perspective I can *see* when the tyres are worn out or completely shagged. Not so much an issue now with a single tyre supplier - the amount of grip is more likely to be dictated by Bridgestone, not by the tyre profile.
I'm not sure if it's within the FIA's power to dictate Bridgestone produce a grippier tyre. Otherwise Bridgestone would just produce a grooveless tyre with no more friction than the existing tyres. Then we're back where we started but with more drag and mildly better aesthetics.
