Oi! Top Gear! Wanna make a difference? Right,......
Discussion
It would be great if the most watched motors prog could get serious for a few mins each week and lend a hand with some real issues, such as:
Why is EVERYONE ELSE going through red lights for up to 5 seconds after they go red and indeed why some people just go through anyway cos they're tired waiting?
Why is new tarmac so shiny it is dangerous in sun rise, sunset and can occlude vision from other road hazards, for weeks, till the rubber gets laid down from use?
Why are those bright blue-white headlights, which seem to scan your eyeball when you drive towards them, legal on the road, yet come on a range of new cars?
..... Any more ideas? Cos these issues would make a difference to me. It's ok watching a group of grown up schoolboys messing about in cars that cost more than the average house for half the prog or more - in small doses every few weeks, personally speaking, but then again, I am as old as Clarkson and my chuckle muscle works, but does switch off when inanity hits a certain ceiling - but some real issues need addressing, sometimes, chaps.

milly - think I have. Is that the thing on a sky tv channel? It is poor.
Bobalong - I aint averse to a laugh, and fifth gear is a bit pretentious cos the easy banter of top gear is totally absent. Which is why TG's lads could make a point valid if they bothered to make it. People would pay attention.
Maybe if some of you feel like I do, you could lobby people locally, like local bobbies and newspapers. It might make us all a bit safer if public awareness can make people more self aware.

Agreed.
I've already noticed one thing; the other week Clarkson mentioned in passing "idiots who drive around with their front foglights on" and lo, the SFFL (Sporty Front Fog Lights) brigade that boil my blood on the way to work every morning seemed to be markedly reduced.
Assuming for a moment that it wasn't just a figment of my vivid imagination, it shows that the programme has considerable influence.
(I'm still annoyed at Ford for That Bloody Advert.)
