Im sure someone much more intelligent and informed on here will be along soon to set my straight but basically why don't why all stop paying our road tax in protest to the rapidly deteriorating road conditions and safety issues they are causing?

The roads around my home in Buckinghamshire are in such a poor state that im regularly having to avoid oncoming cars because we are both spending to much time looking at the road surface or trying to avoid failed roads surfaces, oncoming traffic becomes a secondary concern. Most of the time the only way to make progress is to straddle both lanes in order to avoid the sides which have failed but in a lot of cases the whole road surface has failed. Some roads are now impassable as they are so bad.

My local council doesn't seem to care and tells me they are doing all the repairs necessary but I know there are sections of road that have not been touched or repaired in over 5 years.

It got me thinking that someone should start a petition to get everyone to stop paying their road tax in order to force the drastic repairs our roads need.

Thoughts?

I know that that our car tax doesn't directly pay for the roads. Just feels infuriating we pay this to drive on such terrible roads.

Maybe if they charged EVs and small cars something there might be some money to fix the roads.

I guess my point of this post was that some of us are paying a lot of money each year to use our cars on roads that are frankly dangerous to ourselves and other road users as well as causing damage to our prized possessions and there is nothing we can do about it.
