So for now I have refitted the original rear mounts that I removed. I want to I inspect the front mount next. The rears didn't look too bad to my eye but not sure if you can see them sagging when off the car. I'm still not sure I understand how a sagging mount at the front could lower the exhaust unless it's raised in the front mount which is unlikely. Or maybe I just fitted the exhaust badly and it needs rotating a bit to get it up into the rear bumper cut out. There is definitely some play in the engine and gearbox assembly mounts as you can feel it all lurching around when you come on and off the clutch.
I saw some water droplets from condensation on the inside of the plastic window. So I've removed the rear carpet piece which covers the engine and brought it in the house as it felt a little damp. For now I'm using a towel to collect and more water if it forms becauseid I'd prefer this to it finding it's way to somewhere else. I can obviously swap out the towel for a dry one as and when.
I've gone OTT on dehumidifiers around the car. I just bought this rather large one from Asda which is now in the back.
I'm tempted to try the hardtop again but this means finding an able bodied assistant to help.

Had it for a while but just posted some pics as I had uploaded them for a different forum. Such a magnificently ridiculous thing for Porsche to have made. I remember seeing it in some accessories blurb many years ago when I had my first 986. And thinking at the time why. But now I see why. Or maybe I dont. But why not.
Anyway the topic in the other forum is I think I need to change the colour. This is the default or as it comes. Obviously my car is basically red and black so this will stick out like a sore thumb. Even though it's totally illogical to have this thing I'd guess a better colour might make it look more together if I ever fit it. Or maybe the point is it should stand out. Not sure.

These pics and info from when I did the hard top strip and rebuild seem to be missing.
Stripped down the hard top to see if I can understand how I might fix this leak. 1 screw is rusted up badly and didn't want to come out - pointed out. That's why the long black metal strip is still attached to the roof.
I found quite a bit of sticky gunk between the seal and the hardtop in the corners. Not sure how much of this is factory or been added later. I did find some metal tabs in the far corners of the seal which should clip into holes in the hardtop but these were not situated correctly so it is possible this is why my corners did not look right.
I'm wandering now if I should just reassemble it and try it on the car but I might get some replacement screws and bolts first. And as its a 2 man job to fit the roof I'll need an assistant anyway so that won't happen straight away. I'm obviously worried I've just destroyed the seal/s and made everything worse but you have to have a go right?

Ok car is all back together and back on the ground. Feels good because its been maybe 8 or 9 months since I started dismantling it.
Well it's still missing it's driver seat. That's next on the list.
Still have damp anxiety. I'm sure I can still feel some moisture under carpet where driver seat floor meets the rear bulkhead. But lets not get distracted by that just yet...
Wheel alignment is obviously all over the place. Not sure if you can tell from these pics. I can't take it for alignment as it has no MOT. So I'll need to do the MOT first.

I just stood and watched some idiot drive into my car twice. Parallel parking and he was parking in front of mine. The space was small so he reverses into my car. I saw the first nudge and thought ignore it. Then he did it a second time which made me angry. What the F. I shouted over at him as I was stood waiting to cross on the other side watching this fiasco. He said straight away I only tapped it. So is it OK to just tap other cars now if you can't fit in a space. He didn't tap the boring mondeo in front. No he had to tap mine repeatedly. Then he gets out of his car and starts asking me if I want him to move. What so he can tap it again. How arrogant that he gets to decide what's a tap and if that's OK. How selfish that he can't just park somewhere else. Driving a reasonably modern mx5 too. I would expect more. Is this the world we live in today. You can tap other cars when you're parking?
