Following the thread and really enjoying it until the stolen car post. My word, I've had this happen also and the feeling it truly terrible, especially for us car enthusiasts. For a car like this a tracker is very much needed and dislok with keys not on the car key ring.

Hopefully the claim with the insurance goes as straight forward as it can.

Terrible news - feel bad for you dude.

I had the cats stolen from mine and was pretty upset so I can’t even begin to imagine how you feel.

Hopefully it’s recovered in a good condition, and if not, then insurance is painless and gives you proper compensation.

Sorry to learn it's been stolen. Just checked the beginning of the thread and gazed at that open gate gearlever again.

Horrible news. I had an Audi stolen in similar fashion years ago, unfortunately we were in and I'd misplaced the keys the day before so it all got a bit tense.

Absolute PITA, but be thankful you were out and they got what they wanted. If they hadn't then it's not unusual for the house to get properly trashed which is much more disruptive and unsettling.

My insurers were very good, they sent an investigator around to check some details because of the sums involved. Police were fairly useless beyond giving a CRN and then you'll end up putting some more security (physical rather than cameras and alarms etc) and after a while move on from it but have occassional bouts of being properly angry that some scrotes felt they could do this.

Hope all goes smoothly and you and BBB get past the unsettling phase quickly.

What a nightmare. I have followed this since your first post, which was 2 years ago today. You have used the car as it is meant to be used, so you have probably have had more fun with it in those 2 years than a garage queen would get in a decade.

I hope you get a successful outcome an keep us updated.

Read this thread a lot although have never posted and really enjoyed your adventures and the way you write. Absolutely gutted to hear it's been stolen and the only saving grace is at least you weren't at home, threatened or worse. I hope it's recovered and intact when it is. Fingers crossed.

Just read all 10 pages of this and absolutely gutted about the ending.

Really hope the car can be recovered - but they sound like "professional" crims and as such I suppose the chances are remote.

Also in Surrey too, recently moved from West Sussex. Supposedly this is a "nicer" area... rolleyes

I had really been enjoying this thread - until I got to yesterday's update. frown

Just hope the scrotes get caught, although sadly it sounds like they knew what they were doing.

I just hope you can get a decent outcome. thumbup

Sorry to hear this frown

Were they after the car specifically, or a general break-in and took the car as well? I only ask because you'd think the R8 would be too noticable/rare to be a target to sell/ring or break.

Thanks very much to everyone - your thoughts and sharing personal experience do make a massive difference to us. clap

We're doing ok but not hopeful of seeing Rolf again. BBB posted up on a few FaecesBook groups and someone said they'd seen a black R8 parked up nearby, with loads of details on exactly where. We called the rozzas and they called us back within 30 mins to say they'd visited the site, but another R8 driver must have just been grabbing a kebab. The guy from Facebook has seen it again at the same location and sent a load of pictures but it's got the wrong wheels, grill wasn't wrapped and still had standard mirrors so I'm sure that's not ours.

The Fuzz had seen it on ANPR at 8:30pm on Friday when it left here but haven't seen it since which is probably no surprise.

BBB called home on the weekend and found out her cousin had had his car stolen at knife point by a crazy junky at home, with the dude threatening his wife and dog with stabbing. It makes you realise how lucky we were.

BBB has had a few teary moments, anthropomorphising Rolf and wondering where he is. I don't think I helped by setting up a few eBay searches for R8 parts and telling her these sorts of cars often get parted out. cry

I've been ok about the car, hopeful that the insurance will pay out a proper amount and thinking about what what car next. I'm trying to see it as an opportunity to try something different.... But 6+ cylinder, manual is a disappointingly small field, especially when your wife thinks Porsches are all driven by knobs. We aren't very liquid currently so I think sadly the budget will stay the budget.

At least you got to have that epic last road trip!

Hopefully the scumbags will be caught and their testicles opened up with a dull razor.

Thats terrible. Had no idea these were desirable to thieves or a market for these old ones existed, shows not to get blasé over security for older quick inexpensive cars, pays to block them in.

Scrots everywhere.

After following this epic thread since it's original page I'm gutted for you.

At least you were out when it was taken. Having been at home when my old Impreza was taken at knife point in the middle of the night back in the late '90s I can't recommend it.

BS.

wkers. It'll be on different plates very quickly, so I'm not surprised at the single ANPR ping. Maybe put some of that budget into a bit of upgraded home security. If you and your wife feel a bit wobbly after all this, don't be afraid to talk about it. Burglaries are a vile, vile offence.
