tyres for my 993

hello all,
i'm in the market for some tyres for my 993 c2 and wondered if anyone out there could advise.
so far most people seem to rate michelin pilot sport 2s as the muts nuts, but they are priced accordingly. i've been quoted £324 for a pair of michelin fronts(235/40zr18), or £198 for the same but avons.
the backs are 285/30zr18 and so far the cheapest is £218. are they worth it or is it all talk?
secondly, some guidance on radar detectors/etc(road angel, road pilot, snooper, etc) as these seem to me to be quite pricey are they worth it and which is the best?
