Does anyone have a definitive guide for tensioning the timing chain on the speed six engine as too loose it will hit the cover and too tight will reduce half time bearing life or if it drops chain catastrophic conseqenses any info appreciated

Grant I am more concerned mine is too tight whilst the cams are closer on the speed six compared to my Lotus twin cam there is an allowed deflection figure between the cams in the lotus manual

It is described in Graham V's Sagaris guide

Top one is basically slacken lock nut, rotate til "tight" (anit clock) with engine running, then allow to just slacken off naturally (just under tension from shaft), then lock with nut. Lower one is similar but remove M6 lock screw, then loosen large lock nut, tighten shaft until tight (anit clock iirc) (you can hear chain hum when tight) then loosen by one whole hole on the round locking plate (flip plate to get 1/2 hole). Use big lock nut to hold in place and refit M6 with threadlock.

I'm curious as to what this is. When I did my tappets it seemed like there was bugger deflection between the cams, but as you say its a very short run of chain between the sprickets.

Maybe put this up in the speed six forum aswell.

Important:
But do it only when engine is in fully warmed up situation, otherwise when you do it when engine is cold the chain will be too tight when engine has expanded!
