New discs - new pads?

If I fit new front discs to my Cerb, should I fit new pads at the same time? Generally, people say that you should, but mechanic chums are saying that it is not really necessary...it may just take longer for the existing pads to bed in as they may have become contoured to the shape of the existing discs? Anyone have any thoughts?

Also, if I stick with standard discs and decide to change the pads, should I keep them as standard too, or is it worth uprating?
