Wow, just logged on and read the recent posts.

T, drinks next week as planned chap. Will mail you very soon.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....Diablo Chat over a glass or two.

Went out in a 996TT the other week, very nice and very quick but no way a raging bull Next step from a Cerbera is either a quicker TVR or a Lambo, no questions asked.

Like I said, considering me and Mr. Lambo have the same Birthday's, a Diablo suits my temperament.

You get lots of threads along these lines, and every time, two things strike me:

1) While second hand information can be useful, you have to allow for inflation. First hand experience is priceless.

2) The way these cars are sold (or not) is all wrong.

Get Daz on the case, and in less than 30 seconds, any prospective punter will see the point of a 911 turbo
PRECISELY. The time I bummed a ride in his car is burned deep into main memory.

Listening to Bashers 355 during the 1 minutes noise had me reaching for my cheque book. And the sad thing is I was only half joking.

Similarly, try to keep up with Tony in his Diablo on Essex B roads and you just won't have any questions about handling, speed, sound etc. Apart from making me wish I'd brought the Ferrari instead, it's the first time in my life I've lusted after a Lamborghini.

Which would you prefer? One of the above or a bored dude in a suit?

Have to respond to defend the Diablo. I know it must be difficult to figure it when there is so little good feedback from people who have owned them and done real world mileage.
The thing that sets this car apart from Porsche and the 'normal' Ferraris is the aura and sense of occasion that surrounds this car. And then you drive it and actually find out how good it really is.

I had a new Diablo in 94. 2WD and I found it fabulous.
The power, the handling, the whole way the chassis is set up is really something. The actual dynamics of the car are just outstanding. Even on 'B' roads (car was in Australia) it was possible to drive the car amazingly quick. All the feedback, all the correct responses, were all in place. At the time I also had a 308 GTB, a 968 CS, a 5000 QV and a Pantera. The Diablo was easily and comfortably superior.

I've currently got a 930, a 355, 340R, Impreza Sti and
while all these cars are fabulous they never give you the same sensation as the Diablo. I traded the 2wd on an SV and one of the things I miss is the steering on the SV, being power, gives nothing like the feedback that the 2wd manual steer did.

If your interest lies in driving and ownership pleasure then a used Diablo has got to be the best value going.

On the reliability front I have had no problems at all and even my SVR has had few problems, even with track use.

So I'd say go for it and you will enjoy it.

Apologies for the long post

Having had a couple of "drives" in Tonys' car (first time at Brunters about 170 I seem to remember)
I have to say if you can afford it T then go for it
Just remember for the rest of you life you can use the "when I had a Diablo" line down the pub

On the downside though I'm not sure it suits your "Shy" personallity

Ill have to chime in in defense of the Diablo also.

First in terms of speed. Having owned both a 1992 and now my 1998 Sv, both are faster than Porsche 996TT stock for stock. The 92 will not destroy a 996TT,but it will beat one in straightline acceleration. The biggest advantage the Porsche has on the DIablo, is on narrow b-roads, and the Porsche has a huge advantage on the earlier Diablos in terms of brakes.

My Sv on the other hand, is much quicker than a Porsche 996TT. The advantage again of the Porsche is the ability to gain lots of power easily, while unless your willing to spend big money, in the Diablo youre basicly limited to exhaust and air filters. I however fixed this problem with the addition of nitrous, and will note that the car is faster than any modded 996TT. The Diablo is also very comfortable, and very reliable. Through my many years of ownership, ive found my Sv to be completely reliable, with no maintenence costs except oil and filter changes.

I have a video on the net of me racing a modded 930, that made over 500 rear wheel hp. Youll be able to see that the Porsche is slightly faster, and this is a car that weighs 2800pds, with around 650hp. With nitrous, i leave him like he's standing still.

Also, imnot knocking the Porsche, as im currently looking for a 996TT to add and modify. But in terms of the whole experience, the DIablo is far superior, in every way.
