Hi,

As per title, is the 570s a supercar?

I would consider it to be!

It’s such a subjective question. Price - performance - looks - desirability- exclusivity.

I don’t think you will ever get a definitive answer.

McLaren categorise it as Sports Series. Whereas 650s, 720s etc are Super Sports.

I would definitely categorise the 570s as a “Supercar” though. In my “subjective” opinion.

How long will it be before someone pops up analogising that because their R8 is a Supercar, so should a 570s be....?

hehe

Badge snobbery.

Does it pass the critical tests?

The pub bragging rights test (0-60, top speed, power).
The badge test (if you tell someone the make do they assume you drive an SUV).
The school playground test (if parked near a school will it immediately be surrounded by kids taking photos)
The exclusivity test (It is beyond the means of 98% of people to own, even if they really want one)

570s passes all the tests comfortably.

So "your friend's" main criteria for buying a Mac is whether or not other people think it's a supercar? rolleyes
Tell you what - I can save him a load of money...
"it is my honest opinion, and that of many other people, that a blinged up Saxo with a f**k off massive exhaust is a supercar".

I mentioned that the R8 definitely is not a supercar to a owner on here once. You would think I had insulted his wife with the venom of his defence

570s passes all the tests comfortably.
So what about lambos then since they have the urus?

If you tell someone you drive a Lambo I doubt they will generally assume it's an Urus. What I said was "if you tell someone the make do they assume you drive an SUV" - I doubt most non-petrolheads even know Lambo make an SUV. Likewise Ferrari, once their SUV comes they will still be known primarily for supercars.

Sounds about right.

I'm in mixed minds over the R8 performance parts edition and it's supercar status however, the old V8 would be obliterated by most modern hot hatches.

The Urus has always been banded around as a "Super" SUV, funnily enough the performance isn't far off of an R8 V10 hehe
