Update on our situation.

Sister garage to the dealership we purchased the van from confirmed that it was suspected cylinder housing damage (not sure if right technical term). Advised no support from VW, even though I have seen suggestions that they might contribute 30%.

This was after the trial oil consumption where they weigh the oil before and after. The van was triggering the oil light from full every 400 miles or so.

The van has been back to the supplying dealership for 2.5 weeks now with no work carried out, so we have requested our money back and they can fix it to suit them (initially issue we flagged 20 days after purchase, we are now 3 months from purchase date).

We are absolutely gutted, as we had planned to convert to a camper, and have now come to the conclusion that we are going to put off a purchase until we can get something newer with some warranty from VW.
Further update and warning for anyone searching for the registration plate.

We returned the van to the supplying VW dealership in October and received a full refund (an outcome we were happy with).

Last week we found the van for sale at an independent dealership for sale and I suspect the work has not been done given how quickly it has reappeared. I imagine VW sent the van to auction and the poor independent has purchased it.

Would you:

A) stay out of it, its not longer our problem
B) inform the dealership of the issues we had (I still have diagnostics reports from VW)

The reg plate is YY65 XDK - I hope that anyone interested in this van, finds this post and either stays away or goes into it knowing what they are getting into.

Personally I would stay out of it. They may have fixed it, they may not. You are in the position where you want to be so just move on.
