Monaro Carbone Lorraine RC5+ brake pad review
Discussion
First of all apologies for the lack of photos, i sort of forgot to take some
I decided to try some Carbone Lorraine RC5+ brake pads, after going out in the UK Carbone Lorraine TVR demo car, and discussing with the owner.
We decided that the RC5+ pad were the closest match to my requirements which is mostly street use with a few 1/4 mile and standing mile events thrown in, but i also hoped to do one or two small trackdays. This is assuming that i've not taken the car to pieces to play with it
The previous pads i had were Ferodo DS2500, which come standard with the AP racing kit that i have. The pads have generally worked well and have been in my car for over 15k miles but i was assured the the RC5+ pad would be better, so i thought id change.
The pads arrived quickly and well packaged and the price is approximately the same as the Ferodos.
Swapping the pads is easy on a monaro which is fitted with AP's, you just remove the spring tab at the front and remove the 2 pins, swap the pads and refit the pins and tab.
The brakes were NOT bedded in as i was informed that this was not required with the RC5+ pads, and initial impressions were very good. Very good bite from cold, and no noise.
A few days later i attended a short sprint trackday at Curborough sprint course. The circuit is very very tight and not designed for a big heavy car like a monaro, but i still tried.

The course is very hard on brakes and tyres as i found out, but i had zero issues. I was actually very surprised that after 3 flying laps i had zero brake fade, and when i pulled into the pit area the brakes were actually smoking, hitting speeds of approx 80mph before braking to 30mph to take the corner.
After about 12 laps i went home, brakes working great.
Since then i have completed a 2800 mile roadtrip to Sweden and back, and the brakes still work great.
Very good bite from cold with no issues with overheating, the only slight issue that i have now is that there is some brake squealing from cold, but i have been informed that i can get some anti squeal shims from Carbone Lorraine which i need to fit. The squealing isn't bad and if you brake hard its fine so maybe i need to try harder
Here is a photo of me at Curborough

So overall very happy with the pads

Just to update this. The car was stood for approx 3 months outside. The discs looked rusty but when I moved it for the first time, i had no issues what so ever. No noises, no banging nothing.
these pads didnt stick or corrode to the discs like the ferrodo pads did.
I am impressed with the pads
