So the chairman is now an ex funeral director? Sounds about right..
Fortunately not an estate agent, politician, solicitor, used car salesman, Journalist etc. etc. Actually Anthony is a really nice guy and he and his wife are fun company. Sometimes jokes at someone else's personal expense fall a little flat. tongue out

Go to the page above and literally comment in any thread (anyone can) and Ask Richard Furse to check your membership details. He see every post and usually fixes the same day.

Or you could just ring the clubhouse and ask Marc Aylott the club manager to fix on Monday.

I will check back here to see if you have posted anything saying you still cannot get on the forum.
Thanks for that. Will do.

When you were talking about the forum yesterday I thought I’d have another look.
I don’t seem to be able to post as a guest.
Are you logging in? At the top right? Otherwise you are only viewing the forum. Even guests (non members) can post on most areas of the forum.

An email from AMOC has just arrived, which perhaps clarifies the disagreement.

Anthony Oade has been elected the new Chairman.
He describes the 2021 election of directors and officers, which should have included on the ballot form, but did not, the overseas Directors of the Club.

All seven overseas directors will now be co-opted onto the Committee of Management.

The Club is a limited company, so therefore the formalities have to be in accord.

I don't know anything about AO, but that is down to me, because I should have paid more attention to the notice of election.

Much of that statement, was, a little strange? As he co-opted set names, they were not elected in any way, by anyone. If they were on the ballot form then there would have been competitors for those posts?

Anthony is a decent bloke, of that I'm sure. He has much to do to turn the club around. I hope he can achieve that.

I never ever got where the membership value was returned as they use unpaid volunteers to drive local meets etc and then everything else was extra. A good effort was made by a local chap here to revive it a couple of years ago but it just didn't have the fit or legs for me. Do far better with informal groups that involve more roads than tables!

The way they piggy backed Ed's huge little bash was a bit odd - thought it should have been the other way round really given they have staff and committees etc

Still a seminal event Ed - even if we did ruin it all with a tombola laughwink

Hi Dewi, I hope and trust is all well in your world.

Lovely pictures taking a walk back down memory lane posted there may I say and if I'm correct they are of the 2014 Burghley meeting I used as a tester.

Regarding the piggybacking it was strange really but I ran with it after being introduced to Mrs Reed who at that time assured me the club would be supportive.

So on that note I ran with it but held full control of the event and what I was doing,in fairness to the club although not involved in any planning or stewarding of the event the relationship proved most beneficial purely regarding the advertising gained via their magazine.

The limited coverage I was afforded was priceless as it helped reach out and attract many attendee's that would not have picked up on the meeting via the main platform here on PH.

In conclusion piggybacking worked but its probably best if any body out there is mad enough to take on such a project that they firmly keep control of proceedings
to make sure things go in the direction intended rather than how someone else decides you'll be doing it.........rolleyes

I'm very much my own man and thats how I did it,basically a case of leave me alone to sort things my way and everything will be will be alright on the night..........biggrin.

What was the old saying........"to many chefs and all that.....

Thanks once again to all those generous folk be them AMOC members or not that turned out to make the day so special whilst raising a small fortune for the less fortunate.

Thanks again and least we forget the massive support and help of Wadders, AP and all concerned at Gaydon let alone my assembled cast members from Dad's Army who soldiered on throughout the day without complaint........clap

Finally having had the experience personally of doing a few events over the years I would ask you to take your hats off to the club and to those individuals there who organise so many events year in year out for everyones enjoyment........clap, I can tell you its no cake walk and if they weren't there the event scene would be a very dull and far between place.

Great post, I was gutted I could not attend with my DB9 as I was out of the country that weekend. Maybe it's about time you organised another one at Burghley ????

Yes, a great shame that you missed a wonderful event. Even the weather obeyed Ed's orders.

Ed did a wonderful job, but it seems that organising was a mammoth task for him, so I think it might be someone else's turn.

If AMOC step in, it will probably include a black tie dinner with Lord and Lady Ponsonby at £1,750 a head, a reference required to vouch for table manners and free premier parking for DB5s. Sir Leslie Patterson, KCB AO. Cultural Attaché to the Court of St. James & Chairman, Australian Cheese Board could apply, but would not be accepted.

Alls well here thank you Richard just older, fatter and balder........rolleyes

Thanks also for the kind words Paul and Jon, so for clarity lets let you all know that I did revisit the project in view of returning to Burghley in 2018 but after the success of 2016 those in power at Burghley had twigged on to (imo) what was a good thing but only in negative fashion from my point of view.

Firstly the prices went up considerably and then the space allocation was reduced which obviously if your a megalomanic like me its no good what so ever, well whats the point in going backwards.

The 600 cars from 2016 could possibly have been a 1000 cars in 2018 if I'd got my sh*t together with a decent advertising campaign and plenty of my forum prompting but unfortunately I felt that just to many obstacles where being put in the way with the final straw being a mass reduction on the number of trade stands and other attractions that could be in attendance.

I did the sums and had them checked several times over and frankly it would have cost me about 14 grand to revisit the project in a manner I felt fitting.

Insurance, medical staff, printing costs etc etc soon mount up and with more cars coming potentially toilet blocks where now throw into the equation again a cost Burghley would not entertain so that again would come from me or have to be taken out of any charity pot.......again in my mind defeating the object
of running the event to benefit others.

To me in my small mind whats the good of Burghley having a huge expanse of beautiful space and a stately home to die for if your not going to take advantage of what could be offered.

My idea would have been to build considerably on 2016 and put on something extra special which would further attract owners and enthusiasts alike from near and far, that including a world wide presence as we did have several over seas visitors at Burghley that year many who crossed borders and the channel to show off their cars.

Of course I explored other venues and came close to doing something very similar but the underlying worry was always the UK weather as months of planning can soon washed away here in Blighty.

Another concern now a days is the potential change of mindset with a new management structure in place at Gaydon, would they or will they be as enthusiastic and supportive as AP was back then, who knows but personally AP did me proud which is something that made the event happen for me really.

Things may change but I've been busy in other area's since my last effort but never say never especially if I can find a younger fitter energetic team
of volunteers that I'm sure my trusted and extremely fit right hand man GavC or Pike as I affectionally call him could soon whip into shape.

Well I best not turn this into a rekindled Burghley thread but you just never know whats round the next corner especially if we avoid hitting the ARMCO.

Cheers Ed....thumbup

PS, how good would that have been to have had Les Patterson giving it large on the PA system..........priceless.

Great posts Ed full of insight and calm wisdomsmile. We need you back! I'll be a fluffer if you need any help setting anything up again. Often considered a smaller one in the castle here in Cardiff - but they just shut the main road to cars now! We need a rebellion and drawbridges dropped!

Ed If your thinking about planning anything I'd help !!

Maybe a smaller event? I know Burghley well as I live close by but I know loads of other stately homes do have massive outside spaces for a get together.

As everyone says both events were crackers and both were blessed with great weather. So much so that they have both rolled into one in my memory. I know that there was a One-77 at one of them and a vintage Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. Loved the Spitfires, AP was at one of them and I remember the Lagonda Taraf! All good fun...

Hi Paul,

I'm not currently thinking to heavily on anything as I've just moved home and have plenty of jobs to sort.........well according to the wife that is.

I'm still local in the grand scale of things so I'll keep your kind offer in mind along with Dewi's of course but remember one thing I don't do small.....rolleyes

2016 had 2 One 77's on show Rich thanks to 2 cracking young and lucky owners and don't forget the earth shattering roar of the Vulcan in the courtyard
that had the house glaziers having kittens.

So many very very special cars there that day and yes we were blessed by the weather.

I see that AMOC still has its problems - some members thrown out for honesty recently, with a key member resigning this month and others threatening to ......
I left a while ago after 20+ years, and I really do not understand why so many put up with AMOC when they could leave and join a club that has all its members interests at heart - there are plenty such clubs around

That is an odd reason for dismissal.
"Simpkins, we have noticed that your behaviour here is far too honest. You are fired."

The madness of the world we live in, I suppose.
EG. You travel to a protest (about wanting to stop other people using oil) in a diesel car, then afterwards jet off around the world for a holiday.

This seems to be accepted as the normality of life now. - confused

I joined in March, mostly because I wanted to belong to the club, but so far its been great, little magazine every month, I have been on one event which was great, met some fellow owners, my area rep, and a really nice little social event. We would never have visited such a place.

Tomorrow I have entered my car into the Concours at Duxford, so that will be interesting, I must make sure I point out that I have had all the wheel nuts replaced!!!

So looking forward to tomorrow.
