Waving Etiquette

Now coming from an Elise and the Lotus fraternity where a friendly wave from one owner to another of the same marque as we frequented the queens highway was almost compulsory, and failure to wave back caused you to be ridiculed on the various forums as not having an interest and passion in the marque or the history etc.
After a few days in the Vantage now where I have on coming across a fellow Aston Martin owner I seem to be in the minority, and the reactions range from the occasionally positive with a smile and a wave back, the almost embarrassed wave back, being totally ignored and the “WTF are you on about” in response to my wave.
The question is should I just give up as it’s not the done thing in an Aston, or persevere on the basis that I’ve met an unrepresentative sample so far?
