Running costs are going to be about the same - the cars have the same engine after all, so the maintainance cost is similar. The P1 may do a little bit more to the gallon though as it's gears are longer.

I've never been too fussed about warranties, since International Motors (Subaru's official importers to the UK) are very good at not paying out on claims due to mods. (And both of my Scoobs have been substantially modded ) Mine's been resident in the UK since it was new. I should have put some of the details in "my cars" in my profile...

A good example is someone I know who's had a P1 from new. The engine died spectacularly on the M-way and they refused to pay up due to a non-standard backbox. It took 6 months of fighting to get this one sorted in his favour. (My personal view is that the standard ECU on a P1 is not set up all that well for UK fuel and that it should be treated the same as a grey import and treated to a nice remap )

IM won't offer a warranty on grey imports... But I figure that I've payed quite a lot less for the RA than a P1, so I'll save this for if I need a new engine or gearbox. Are there P1s with warranty left? I thought renewal costs got prohibitive after 5 years or so?

For the record, I've clocked up about 50k miles in my 2 Scoobs over the last 4 years without any major reliability problems. (UK car ended up with 100k miles, and the RA currently has just under 50k). Now going to find some wood to touch!
